The Beatles vs. The Beastie Boys:

I have several artist represented in my collection, but no doubt the top two are the Beatles and the Beastie Boys.

I have 100 CDs in my car and 18 of them are Beatles and 22 are Beastie Boys. I spend 70% of my time with the Beastie Boys on and would say Paul’s Boutique and Check Your Head make the bulk. Then 20% Beatles, the last Beatles album to go into rotation was the White Album. The one with “Happiness Is a Warm Gun”

Anyways, the Beastie Boys are #1 in my programming and they come first alphabetically. I always thought it is strange that you have to go to the 4th letter, then S before T by one letter. So my conclusion: Beastie Boys win.

While I was in NY, I noticed several photos of John Lennon and I only saw one of the Beastie Boys, but I predict in 10 years you will see more Beastie Boys pictures so it is a wash.

I was thinking about the point I wanted to make…. The Beatles to me were the champions of the music world second to …. None,

As a 7th grader I began to do my homework on the Beatles, once turning in the lyrics of Rocky Raccoon in as a short story … I got an A,

Anyway, I always wondered who would be the next Beatles…

My conclusion is there are several great bands, but the Beasties are the modern day Beatles equivalent that will have a long lived legacy by my guess/opinion. I have always tried to convince my wife of this a few years after Check Your Head.

Then to read the article that the Beasties’ flag was flying over Capitol records for crushing Madonna and Garth Brooks I began to believe my on theories.

Sure it is only my opinion, but who better to take over as the new champion. I never considered the Beach Boys in the same realm for consideration. Granted Public Enemy is great and now they got the Flavor of love, but I believe the Beastie Boys are collecting a few more Royalty checks than Public Enemy.

I probably am crazy, But my point is the Beastie Boys, might just have the Ring once worn by the Beatles. I am sure Paull asked Mike D. if the Beastie Boys are having fun.

Buy the way, I do have all my CD's in my car, I am old and way behind the Techno curv. I do Have all my CDs saved to SD memory cards for easy travel, but I do not even own an Ipod. Just a SD card player I can plug into shit.

They aren't in my top 15 favourite bands, so what, favourite doesn't mean "the bands that i think are the best ever". I do agree with the other user that some comparisons can be made between the two, both were highly experimental and groundbreaking in their own way. The fact that i have to explain why they are so much better is quite laughable, it's really one of those things that shouldn't need description. But a few points: put each bands songs side by side, match them up and it's beyond obvious as to which are better overall, hell, the beatles have more songs that would be deemed as "good" or "great" than any other band in history. The beastie boys have one classic album, and a bunch of other "solid" albums. The beatles eclipse them in this sense. I still can't believe i'm having to write this out once again. I hear your point that you hate it how people accept what they are spoonfed by the media, but this isn't one of those cases in my opinion. In my experience most people have listened to the most famous band of all time, and have come to that conclusion themselves, personally, if a journalist spouts off about a song or band I go and listen to the track/album myself and then form my opinion.

As groundbreaking as the beasties were, they weren't as groundbreaking as the beatles, and not as influential either. The beatles have influenced so many artists in so many genres OTHER than pop music, compared tot he beasties crossing over into other genres influentially.

I just think "best" and "greatest" are two words that are overused way too much. I prefer "favorite." Because at the end of the day, my criteria for greatest is going to be different than what youre's would be.

Finally, my 4 year old loves her purple shirt with the green monkey and asks if she can wear it everyday. Fucking $30 t-shirt was worth it. And wherever I travel, the Beastie Boys are a universal language. So maybe it is not the Beastie Boys vs. The Beatles, but who is the modern day Beatles and it goes to the Beastie Boys.

I think the Beatles suck. I am not trying to be contrary just to stir things up. I have never enjoyed listening to the Beatles. In my opinion Weezer is a better band than the Beatles (better because I enjoy listening to them more). I would never pretend to have enough passion, credibility, or insight to give any definitive answer to the question "Who is better"? All I know is that I would rather listen to at least 100 bands before the Beatles.
