The awards seemed pretty well-deserved this year. There weren't any sentimental favorites getting an oscar just because it was time (Martin Scorsese).

man, you're going to really piss some people off for spoiling it in the title of the thread.. that's what happened to me last year.
that being said, i'm happy for all the wins, even though it was all insanely predictable. kind of wish cate blanchett won best supporting actress (though i love tilda swinton) and ellen page won best actress though. happy that diablo cody won best original screenplay. i'm sure plenty of people on this board rolled their eyes when that happened.

I came last at our oscar party for picking winners :(
I sketched some mean caricatures of actors during the show though. jesus i need to get back into art again.
though I did eat 3 cookies, 2 pieces of chocolate ganache cake, a beer, a tall screwdriver, 1/3 of a bag of easter eggies, a bowl of pasta salad, some nachos AND a good couple of handfuls from a veggie platter.
oi. oiiiii.

Tilda did a great job -- can't really begrudge her the win, though I really thought Amy should've gotten it.
I was mostly surprised that Bourne Ultimatum got so much love.

I rolled my eyes. Juno was a great movie but it wasnt Oscar great. Most of the dialogue in it will seem incredibly dated in 5-10 years. Im sure it'll still hold that kind of "huhuh lookit how stupid people in 2007 acted/dressed" kitsch value but I dont think it will be considered classic or even really thought about in that time.
No Country For Old Men deserved the Oscar, so kudos to that particular movie.

I feel bad that I didnt watch it or there will be blood before the oscars showed.
I still think casey affleck did a fabulous job in the jesse james movie.

It wouldn't matter if Blood won because it would be nothing but an advantage for Paramount Vantage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paramount_Vantage) and Miramax anyways.
Was routing for Blood, even so I didn't even watch the Oscars, but No Country also deserved it as well so congratulations on the Coen Bros. part.

They always give the best original screenplay oscar to a movie that isn't great but that seems sort of fresh that year. It's how they reward a movie that isn't good enough for a best picture or other major category. They do it when the writer is also and actor or director or someone who's got a bigger personality than the regular writers in the category.

I love Cate but agreed. Amy Ryan's performance in Gone Baby Gone was almost completely transparent. At times I was almost dizzy with confusion knowing I was watching an actress and not an actual person.

Yup. She nailed it.
I didn't even recognize her from The Wire -- she looked kind of different, but mainly she was just so thoroughly this other person
that I didn't recognize her.

This ain't bad. (http://www.filmthreat.com/index.php?section=features&Id=2139)
It's worth sticking through to the end, anyway. The bit with the coin toss is actually funny.
