plead not guilty and if you can (you can in ny) keep rescheduling the apprearance a few days before as many times as you can. especially if you already have points on your license, do it till they expire if you can so your insurance doesnt go up as much. if the cop doesnt show when you finally go in, case dismissed(y) look for mistakes on the ticket too

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who enjoys Mountain Dew: Baja Blast. I can't describe what it is about it that I really like... but I do take delight in the fact that hardly anyone else seems to like it, so that prevents someone from jacking my soda.

Was it a DC cop, or MD or VA?

Virginia state troopers are DICKS. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it was one of them. They hand them out left and right. My friend got pulled over on GW Parkway all the time too. If you're gonna speed, do it on 270 and in Maryland. I never fucked around in the District or in VA, their po meant serious bidness.

OH MY GOD I AGREE WITH ADAM F

I alternately laugh or get irked with someone who whines "I got caught."

Yeah, how unfair that is. Why should laws apply to you?

I have some sympathy about spilling the soda, though. Bum luck.

Hey, I just paid a ticket a few months ago (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=1533288&highlight=ticket#post1533288) for running a red light on my bicycle. I know pretty much what you're going through.

But you're right -- re-reading that, it doesn't come off like you were whining. When I first read it, I thought you were indignant or something
and I just bristled.

Sorry. And sorry about the ticket, too. I know that sucks.

Or you could just obey the law everywhere. That works too.

I agree, BUT when everyone around you is going 70 mph, it's actually MORE dangerous to go the speed limit (55) than it is to keep up with them. But what they'll do in Virginia is set up multiple speed traps where a line of like, 20 cops will all come out and pull over EACH person who was speeding. And I don't even get why they're wasting their time, they were just going 15 mph over the speed limit on a main highway, not like they were zooming through a residential neighborhood or anything of the sort. That's sorta ridiculous.

Actually, in California, you can get -- and some have gotten -- tickets for this. Which seems nuts, since you're obeying the law, but an
officer can cite you for creating an unsafe situation. True story.

Yeah, I don't understand why there's such a disconnect. I recently had to take my driver's license test again in NC, and they told me that one of the most dangerous things to do is go slower than the rest of traffic. So by my logic, shouldn't you keep up with the flow? Why would cops even pull you over in that sort of situation, after telling you that it's unsafe to lag behind since other cars can ram into you? And there's obviously no standard between states, either. Gooooo figure.

10 mph is fine with most cops and you still go faster than a lot of people. i dont think that extra 5 mph is really worth it imo.

However you slice it getting a speeding ticket sucks. I got one recently and was pissed too. It was my first one. We all speed occasionally (though I do it a lot less now) so I don't think it should be a big deal for someone to post about it.

The first time I ever got stopped for speeding, I told the officer, "Can we make this quick? My sister's in the hospital having a baby."

My sister-in-law had just checked in and was hours away, most likely, plus I wasn't going there -- I was headed to a college for a weekend of partying.
But the cop called it in and wound up letting me go.

I was doing 85 in a 45. :D

hpdrifter
02-28-2008, 01:39 PM
Holy shit! I was doing 51 in a 35. :o

To be fair, its technically a highway and there was a long stretch with no lights.

No lights!

I've lived here pretty much my whole life and have never seen that. The closest i've seen to that is when someone is pulled over, at least 2 more cop cars come....and they just sit there talking to each other. Lazy fuckers.

I used to drive like an asshole (i.e. speeding, running through yellow lights really late, etc) and have only had 2 tickets in the past 14 years. So VA state troopers aren't that bad.

BUT, my friend did get pulled over by a cop who literally jumped out from behind a bush with his radar gun and waved him over. Now THAT shit was ridiculous.

driving regulations are all set state by state, so thats why they don't match up with one another. half of those goofy rules were probably set up just to be different from the neighboring state and catch more people breaking it.

my first ticket i got caught going 45 in a 25. to be fair, i was going 65 in a 50 about 200 yards up the road. the biggest downside to the ticket is my awful insurance rate right now. i can't wait to renew it so i can lower that monthly payment
