Adam Yauch, Mike D. and Adam Horovitz are working on a new album, recording at the Beastie Boys’ Oscilloscope Studios in lower Manhattan. “It’s in the early stages of development, but it sounds cool to me,” says Yauch. He wouldn’t offer much else in terms of details: “We make music and eat lunch,” he says. “Sometimes we fantasize about how cool it would be if we had a chef that cooked lunch every day.”
Yauch was more forthcoming about his new side project, Oscilloscope Pictures, a small film distribution company that he launched earlier this month. He’s already looking at “a handful” of films, saying, “There are cool, interesting films that fall between genres that the larger companies might not be not looking to distribute.” Yauch says he sees the new company as a “small indie label,” adding that he’s learned some lessons from his experience with the Beasties’ defunct Grand Royal imprint. “There’s a danger of getting too much overhead going,” he said. This time around, “a big part of the idea is to do everything in-house — the artwork, the DVD covers, posters, that kind of stuff.”

It's cool that it's been announced, but did anybody honestly not think they were in the lab? The cool thing is since TT5B they've pretty much been there or on the road.
They should listen to every suggestion on this board, and then ignore all of them.
They should listen to every suggestion on this board, and then ignore all of them.
This made my head hurt. Do they also have to ignore what you suggested to do? Therefore not ignoring to ignore peoples suggestions but infact to ignore your suggestion to ignore other people suggestion and do take heed to what they actually suggest?
Bring back Mario C then.

So is this just gonna be straight up The Mix-Up w/vocals, or is it gonna have some hip hop or..... AHHHHH I CAN"T WAIT!
If TT5B was oldschool rap album and Mix-Up was only instrumental, then I want new album to be the ideal mix of those two - just like Check Your Head. Can't wait.

Its an embarrassment of riches these days, huh? We are some lucky mutha's that the boys decided to enter the most prolific period in their careers when most stars of their caliber are deciding between the second villa on some Caribbean Isle or perhaps leveraging a piece of their portfolio (note: I have no idea what that means, but I'm quite sure its something that Mike could do if he wanted to). Hooray Beasties!

AND, as long as their soliciting opinion's (they are dammit!)
Bring back the dust brothers AND Rick Rubin. In fact why not bring in a bunch of producers (anyone youse want) and just see what happens. New blood has been a godsend for you before, why not see if it is again?
Awww, screw it, just release an album soon and I will line up to love it and the ensuring tour. Their busy schedule (for them) is one of the things that makes me happiest in my life. Sad but true.

Exactly why they should ignore our suggestions. The good ones are just as valid as these ones. I'd say they should just do them, but that would be a suggestion, too.

Sonically, they're diverse. I hope they remember that they are incredible writers, and really put some effort into wordplay/characters/stories. They use piles of imagination in their live shows, interviews and just generally. Something that lyrically reflects that would be sweet. Ignore me.

Thought it would be interesting to see what they come up with together after all these years. Someone else put in the request for Mario so I felt as if it was not my place to co opt that request. I mean we is standing on etiquette up in this piece, are we not?

Although I'll grant you there is no evidence to this fact in my post, I was trying to make a totally separate point about using new producers they had not used in the past, and how that has been very successful in the past and I bet would be again. So thats what I meant, I realize thats not exactly what I said, so clearly my statements do not stand up well under cross examination. Sorry bout that.

Didn't say what? They are incredible lyricists (or, they were on PB). This intentionally goofy, "we're not good at this but we have fun" thing isn't all they can do.

I was following your "ignore me" statement. I actually agreed with your point. But please ignore me, too.

No, no you were meant to ignore my reply, too. The ignore function isn't grand enough for this thread.

so far, M.I.A. has recorded a song for The Mix-Up vocal album, and Jarvis Cocker and Snoop Dogg have both turned in spoken word pieces.....
