I'm actually glad the final US trailer is treated like a movie; maybe I helped change the course of the history making marketing of this game.

this is going to be the greatest game of all time.

I second that.

The only thing that makes me sad is that it'll take a damn long to time for me to play this game. :(

The only versions I didnt finish and play yet are MG Acid and MGS Portable Ops. Rght now I'm playing Metal Gear Solid and Solid 2 on my pc again. I"ve finished MGS 3 two months ago. So, Metal Gear is always fresh to me. It's hard to play another game when you have those masterpieces.

this is going to be the greatest game of all time.I wouldn't really call it that but I do consider it more as the Coming of Christ in Video Games.

Anybody gonna wear nothing but MGS4 avys when June 12 gets close by?

I am doing everything in my power not to watch the new trailers and read up on recent reviews. Chances are I'll get to play it at someone else's place and go through the entire game in one sitting... here's hoping.

But there's no way I'm buying a PS3 just for this game. I don't see how this won't be released for the 360, eventually. This would be the equivalent of Konami saying no to at least $50,000,000 in sales. I don't see how they can greatly surpass the budget of the game otherwise.

funk63
05-13-2008, 11:26 PM
it may be release for the 360 but if and when it will definitely have to be on more than one disc. i read somewhere that mgs4 uses up most of the space of a blu-ray disc. and blu-ray discs have like 8 times the storage capacity of a 360 disc.

BBboy20
05-13-2008, 11:40 PM
Then again, Lost Oddessy has like what, over 4 discs?

If they are going to get it on 360, it'll probably another "upgrade", like Substance and Subsistence.

ET
05-13-2008, 11:52 PM
I think the reason that the game takes up so much space on the Blu-ray disc is that (and I can't cite this) Kojima didn't want to compromise the audio or textures (via compressing them into lower quality samples) any more than he had to and used the disc to near full capacity. Again, I don't know if this was someone's speculation or if it's been validated.

I'm going to assume that a couple of dual layer DVD's might cut it for the Xbox or that the rumored Blu-ray add on would fit the bill. I couldn't see this happening until 2009 though. If this came out this November, it would be an ideal pack-in/follow up to the Halo 3 mania of 2007. Bricks would be shat, friends.

BBboy20
05-13-2008, 11:54 PM
True, every "Update" has been released a year later after it's original release so who knows.

Hopefully it'll be Substance, only graphically done right.

ET
05-14-2008, 12:02 AM
I enjoyed the shit out of Subsistence (MGS3).

About $30, extra camo, releases of the old MSX Metal Gear games, the monkey side missions AND the first MGO, which was fun even with the exploits. Probably the best re-release for the PS2 besides Devil May Cry 3 SE.

Yeah, I am really self aware of my fanboyism at this particular moment. :o

BBboy20

05-14-2008, 05:41 AM
This was the only thing that made me want a ps3 over 360. I went with 360 and now i can't get it :(

I'll have it one way or another. I've only completed the main 1, 2 and 3 though. i did do so getting all wigs and camo and things though which I'm nerdily proud of.

A new Zone of the Enders may be in the works. (http://kotaku.com/5008977/kojima-up-for-some-giant-space-robots) A new Snatcher is being developed by Kojima and Suda. (from Grasshopper) That should be interesting. Not famliiar with Policenauts, though.

I have one question concerning the game.
I heard it will be situaded around a lot of places in the world. We'll play in different locations. Is this true? Cause all the trailers only show one. That wrecked and dry place that remembers Iraq.
I know Kojima keeps secrets and if he's showing us only one place, it makes perfect sense. But I'd like to know if its true that we'll have lots of others places to play.

BBboy20
05-15-2008, 04:14 PM

And remember the trailers for Sons of Liberty? As far as I do, I don't remember any trailer showing The Plant mission. Only the Tanker. At least I didnt have idea we would play with Raiden.

That's correct, they did talk about only revealing the Tanker chapter the entire time before the game's released. The entire gaming world would have no idea who they were going to play next (Or actually thought they were going to play somebody else)

But maybe this is one of the reasons why his games are so damn great.

I've seen a short video that might explain some of the locale changes. I'm going to call -*spoilers*- on this one...

apparently you can visit other locales via playable flashbacks as young snake at what would be a return mission to shadow moses. in the video, wind was blowing snow all over the helipad (that the Hind D used) and it was daytime. also, the snow stuck to snake and when he bends down, the snow melts where his body makes contact.

Some players are mentioning/complaining that there are 90 minute cutscenes.

I'm really looking forward to them, the longer the game lasts the better value it will be. Besides only the DMC series come close to the amazing cut scenes in a MG game.

Possibly the real reason it takes up so much room....

MGS4 has '90 minute' cut-scenes
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=189543
We know the Metal Gear Solid series is famous for its long cut-scenes, but this tops everything! Metal Gear Solid 4, the latest instalment in Hideo Kojima's seminal stealth series, has cut-scenes (note the plural) that approach the 90 minutes mark.

Sounds like Sony probably paid him to add filler so they could say "This game could ONLY be done on the PS3 because of it's MASSIVE storage capabilities"

The story's one of the most cliched and hackneyed around, it's all cod philosophy and crazy plot twists. Only the fantastic characters make it for me.

Konami has announced the full itinerary for their Metal Gear Solid 4 World Tour, in celebration of the worldwide release of MGS4 on June 12. The tour, which kicks off today in London, will span eight countries, including three U.S. cities. If you happen to live in New York City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, you may want to take note of these times and locations.

First, on June 11, there will be a midnight launch event and signing session at both the Times Square Virgin Megastore in New York City and the West Hollywood (La Brea) Best Buy in Los Angeles. Konami says Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid series artist Yoji Shinkawa, Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter, motion capture and voice actor Yumi Kikuchi, producer Ken Imaizumi, and associate producer Ryan Payton will all participate in the events, but they don't specify who will appear at which locations.

Following the midnight launch events, there will be another signing event on June 12 in the UNIQLO store in Soho, New York, and the the U.S. tour will wrap up on June 14 at the Sony Metreon in San Francisco, California. If you're an international reader, you may want to check out Konami's official MGS4 World Tour page for full details about every stop, including events in Hamburg, Amsterdam, Milano, Paris, Madrid, Osaka, Tokyo, and Yokohama.

And while we're at it, don't forget to check out our MGS4 Launch Countdown for everything you need to know (and some things you don't but are interesting anyway) before the game's worldwide launch next week.
