I'd put this in Other music but its kind of a one off thing, not really a topic for ongoing debate.
Anyone know the real origin of the band name "Foo Fighters"?

During WWII the slang term pilots gave to any UFO's they saw whilst up in the air was "Foo Fighters." I'm thinking that's where they got it.

I googled it and that's almost word for word what came up. But I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone had any other info. I thought I heard it was from when Dan Rather got his ass kicked by the guy who said "What's the frequency, Kenneth?" (future REM song) but wasn't sure.

Yup, it's the UFO thing.
It's also the reason mr. Grohl's record label is called 'Roswell Records'.

It's also the reason why Dave Grohl is so hot.
