It's pretty uneven. The story is shit. But it's ambitious as hell and some of it really is pretty great.

so would you say that only about a half of it is really any good?

agreed.

Quadrophenia is where it's at!

Maybe a little more than half, but.

I mean, even if "Fiddle About" is a good song, how many times do you really want to hear it?

I don't even think "We're Not Gonna Take It" is very good. The band sounds really stifled.

But you don't want to be without "Sparks" or "Amazing Journey" or "I'm Free" or "Pinball Wizard."

Yeah -- I'd have no problem with someone arguing that it's not a great record. If someone were arguing about Who's Next, I'd say
we'd have a problem.

Quadrophenia is an even more obtuse story, but the album itself is terrific. Probably in my top three Who albums.

i've always been fascinated with the movie and mod culture in general.

The movie is fantastic. It's like a British Catcher in the Rye, almost. It's fantastic that they got such a strong movie out of that album.

The film version of Tommy is wretched.

ugh, the tommy movie WAS horrible.

my very first tattoo was a mod target in the shape of a Q. :D

I loved that scene in the baths where the two guys each start sort of singing competing songs and it all threatens to boil over... then they
realize they know each other.

Ann Margaret in baked beans is kind of unforgivable.

I used to be pretty hot for Ann Margaret, but that scene kinda turns my stomach.

diff'rent strokes for diffrent folks but...
i don't think tommy (the movie) is horrible. i think its fun and very colorful. sure, the covers of the songs are bad (NOT including the movie version of "i'm free". that version blows the original out of the water) but... i dunno. i just really like the way it's filmed. it has really cool special effects and tina turner plays a great acid queen. i like it way better than the quadrophenia movie.

and on the subject...
i like the album tommy. but s.f. sorrow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.F._Sorrow) is WAY better. quadrophenia kinda bores me.

EDIT: (it's snowing bad outside. and as i wrote that, a fire truck crashed into my front yard. HOW EXCITING!)
