View Full Version : That one moment...
you know the moment... you're at a live Beasties show and everything just falls into place, clicks, life just makes sense, etc. ... tell us about it... only ONE moment though - "THE" moment...
for me, it was at the Wookie Stage at Sasquatch Festival last year - I'm at the rail, my boyfriend is standing behind me, the sun is setting, a warm wind picks up, Honky Rink begins and I turn to look at my boyfriend and our jaws drop and then we smile and the show just got better and better and better with more surprises and I walked away at the end of the show knowing that was my "it" moment.

"THE" moment for me was when I won tickets to a private show, smuggled in a sealed copy of Country Mikes Greatest Hits (US black vinyl, not the bootlegs), made a poster that said "PLEASE SIGN MY VINYL"), watched the band from 3 feet away, and was summarily ignored.
"THE" second moment is when I located the exit from which the band was exiting at the same show. I was there with 1 (yes ONE) other fan with my record and my sign and Ad Rock said "Sorry, he says no" (pointing to his handler).
That was the moment that I recognized clearly that no matter how much I cared or invested in the Beastie Boys, that I do not mean shit to them.

Exactly!
I still spend the same amount of money, and invest the same amount of time, but don't expect that I have some valence on an imaginary "relationship" with the fans.

The best Beastie LIVE bit for me was when they played London Astoria in 94 and they did EGG MAN with afro wigs.I was drunk and jumping around singing along like a lot of people aroung me.If the world had ended then it would have been ok

I hate it when people do shit like this. A bunch of other people are there to see them too, not just you, dude. So stop expecting special treatment.
Now, the dissapointment of waiting around outside and all I can understand. But you can't expect them to fucking stop a show to sign your shit.

You know, there's a bunch of people from the "community" who seem to think they're entitled to "special treatment" (T5 MVP YO).
So why does flying around the world to see them do a show in 95% of the cities on the tour including Japan earn you more entitlement than collecting practically every pressing of every thing the Band has ever released?
At least BFL has realized he's nothing more than a customer. Some people are still living that delusion that they're "special".

without sounding too pathetic was just great to see them(bestival) but had a great moment when yauch looks at me,puts his hand around his arm where my armband tattoo is and kind of waves or something-it's amazing to get a nod of acknowledgement from someone who's pretty much one of my heros(sorry if that's lame!)and at the time i thought it must have been because he could see that i'm just sooo hot-only kidding-because he could see i was just having one of the best times of my life. but now i wonder if he just hates tattoos and was taking the piss!!! nearly cried when they left the stage! roll on next time they hit these shores

I never expected special treatment. I did HOPE that I would get a record signed though. I was just describing the moment where I realized I am just another face in the crowd. I have no expectation of special treatment, in fact it is exactly the opposite.

I have 2. Same moment, but realized at 2 seperate times:
1. The MSG Show that was filmed for AIFST, when Intergalatic started, and I realized Mike D was rhyming the 1st verse of the song right behind me.
2. A year or so later, when I watch the DVD, and saw myself.
Not necessarily "it" moments, but they were the 2 most "shared" moments I've had with the 'Boys.
Also, anytime I hear 'Sabotage' live.

At long beach on the pageant tour when the stage turned around and they busted out with the instrumentals. That was IT.

i think my moment came driving up the PCH to Berkeley with the Beastie Mix-Tape blasting on the radio...
me and my best friend, since 1983, Beastie fans since God Knows When, hadn't seen a show together since In The Round '98.
checked in the hotel, put on the suits and sunglasses, and walked across UC Berkeley campus to the Greek Theater.
the candlelight was just right, and the wine was delicious...
