"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is." (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/11/AR2008031102316.html)

This is one of Hillary Clinton's staunchest supporters and also a previous VP candidate under Walter Mondale's try at Reagon in 1984.

This statement is blatantly sexist, racist and harkens back to the very recent dark ages of political whiteness.

My question is this, Who are these People? The very rights and legal bills that have been passed to get over the race and sex cards do not apply to them?

She is a moron, or worse, knows what she is saying and doesn't give a shit that it offends millions of voters.

What a great line of thought Ferraro has, she really knows how to unite the people of this country, Hillary must love this type of support.

Ferraro defends controversial comments on Barack Obama

"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," Ferraro said. "Racism works in two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?" (http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_8533832)

I don't know that it's racist or sexist. It's just an opinion based on observation. A lot of people are stupid enough to vote for someone
based largely on race or age or gender. That's simply a sad sociological truth.

It's a politically stupid thing to say, though.

From CNN:

Ferraro also told ABC's Good Morning America that "every time" someone makes a negative comment about Obama, they are accused of racism.

Late Tuesday, she told interviewer that she felt she was being attacked because she was white.

"Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let's address reality and the problems we're facing
in this world, you're accused of being racist, so you have to shut up," she told the (Torrance, California) Daily Breeze. "Racism works in
two different directions. I really think they're attacking me because I'm white. How's that?"

She and Clintons campaign are trying to fire up Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton stereotypical style of responses. This is a blatant opening of race for the benefit of those still clinging onto race as an issue.

Ferraro is unapologetic (http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-ferraro13mar13,1,4732563.story).

Ferraro is willfully ignorant (http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/susan_brooks_thistlethwaite/2008/03/youre_wrong_ms_ferraro.html).

or worse, as this writer observes,

I'm willing to bet damn near anything Bill thought this up himself. As a white male Bill realized he couldn't push Obama into the ghetto box, but what a brilliant strategy! - let's have another "disadvantaged group" lambaste Obama through an elderly white female surrogate to divide and conquer in the victimology sweepstakes. Since whites outnumber blacks, and white females in particular outnumber black voters, it's an incredibly audacious gambit to win the nomination. Throwing the kitchen sink apparently means turning the Democratic Party into an all out race versus gender war, ultimately allowing Bill and Hillary to either emerge on top or for Obama to be so badly damaged that the Superdelegates will fear he's lost the white vote in the general election. That's exactly the game the Clinton's have set in motion here.
