Sheriff: Woman sat on toilet for 2 years

By ROXANA HEGEMAN, Associated Press Writer 26 minutes ago

Authorities are considering charges in the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years — so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called police.

Ness County Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.

"And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,'" Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."

The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.

Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.

"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.

She was reported in fair condition at a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.

Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.

Police have declined to release the couple's names, but the house where authorities say the incident happened is listed in public records as the residence of Kory McFarren. No one answered his home phone number.

The case has been the buzz of Ness City, said James Ellis, a neighbor.

"I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," he said.

Ellis said he had known the woman since she was a child but that he had not seen her for at least six years.

He said she had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up. At one time the woman worked for a long-term care facility, he said, but he did not know what kind of work she did there.

"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."

dude, if I wouldn't come out of the bathroom..after 24 hours my boyfriend would bust in there and drag me off the shitter! there's no way he'd allow things to get that out of hand.

really makes you wonder about some people. TWO YEARS? come on. obviously this guy had another bathroom in his house; otherwise how could he just ALLOW this to go on?

she might be a lot bigger than him!

he might have developed a sophisticated bucket system, i dunno.

seriously tho, they BOTH might have some sort of mental illness and he might not have been able to handle.
I have lived with someone with a mental illness and delusion and the thing is they can still be lucid and think they are in complete control. Its hard and infuriating to deal with at times and the guy might have just given up and not known what to do. I'm not really arguing with you, i just think we need to know more about how this has happened.

agreed. I'm positive that the woman does have a mental illness...I think that's safe to say...a sane person does not do what she did. If I had to guess I'd think she was Agoraphobic. that's a main disorder I can think of that would cause some one to hide in a bathroom for two years. but it could be a combination of things.

the guy not getting her help sooner is a bit harder to understand...but I see your point...and maybe he has issues to.

so bizarre.

What's it like to sleep for 2 years on the pot?

I assume she's large, so what's it like to sit on the pot for 2 years and not shower?

I assume she's large, so what's it like to not be able to wipe yourself due to being stuck on the pot for 2 entire years?

I can't imagine that with the amount of food she must have to eat to exist in such a large state (I assume she's large) that she hasn't plugged up the toilet at least once in that 2 year timeframe. What did she do as the water started to rise?

How after the first 24 hours on the pot did the b/f decide that bringing her 2 large pizzas, 16 big macs and a plate of pancakes per day (I assume she's large) and smelling her stank for 2 years was a good idea, but calling someone to help was not.

Do they have a 2nd bathroom?

Woah, that can't possibly be real. Amazing! Did she have a TV or did she just stare off into space all day and night? How did she ever sleep? How did sores not form on her ass and get infected? I'm guessing the guy had another bathroom in his place. Otherwise... blech.

Thats the most hardcore thing I've ever read. Imagine if we all had 1/10 the determination and commitment she did... the world would be a much better place. She probably thought about giving up all the time, but she stuck to it. (y)

Today it's in a german newspaper called BZ as well.
The illustrator did a very nice drawing (http://www.bz-berlin.de/BZ/boulevard/2008/03/14/frau-hat-2-jahre-auf-der-toilette-gesessen/gfx-frau-hat-2-jahre-auf-der-toilette-gesessen-8790838-MBHF,templateId=renderScaled,property=Bild,width=2 63.jpg) of that woman... :)

For those of you who understand german, this is the link to the article (http://www.bz-berlin.de/BZ/boulevard/2008/03/14/frau-hat-2-jahre-auf-der-toilette-gesessen/frau-hat-2-jahre-auf-der-toilette-gesessen,geo=4016934.html).
