producers:

total science
digital & spirit
marcus intalex & st files

djs/live sets:

zinc
bailey
goldie
fabio
grooverider
andy c
hype
lush
marcus
mystical influence

those are just off the top of my head. some of them might be a little dated, as i've been out of the loop for a few years. but i've got a crate of vinyl and i'll check back or pm you with more suggestions or recommendations. old school jungle from 93-96 was pretty sick as well. it might not be that hard to find or download the awol ministry of sound set from '96, featuring randall/darren jay/dr. s. gachet/kenny ken/mickey finn all back-to-back, a classic and very memorable set. avoid jump-up and dark tech-step stuff from 97-99. it was a very cheese and brutal era for dnb.

i saw andy c live a couple of months ago - was pretty intense but really good. (y)

timeless - goldie
t power - police state
d cruize - cruize control
Roni Size - anything

ANd if you only ever buy one d&b album get this one, its from about 10 years ago but imo its the blueprint for everything. "Finley's rainbow" is the track.

yeah that tune is cheese

the build-up is about a minute or so long, but the bass and then amen drop is sick, a classic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLiZO5M8GXY) (y)

here's (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8MELC176) a classic marcus intalex/calibre set from about three years back, one of the best i've ever heard from intalex.

I was always partial to Photek, the album 'Form and Function' in particular.

Aphrodite was fun as well.

Well drum and bass has many faces and sounds, so where to start is really where your taste is

I started with the "intelligent" sound - older moving shadow, LGR and GLR, omni trio, ltj bukem, older dieselboy dj sets, and then onto tech-step - 3d and snuggles), dom and roland, teebee, and the likes.

The sound of dnb is quite diverse beyond my likes, there's jump up, ragga, jazzstep, liquid, neurofunk, and some minimal stuff and extremely chaotic stuff like Amon Tobin and Squarepusher who would have been labeled "illbient", not even sure if that title is thrown around anymore.

I think i am a little behind the times but here's some older stuff

RONI SIZE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4n0iUtWEwY)

The best thing Photek ever did (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE33ygLQgKA)

just looked up a few things mentioned on here and found this piece of weirdness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU7kS-BE0ZI) - dunno what to make of that.

i'm not a big D&B fan. i like my stuff more on the disco/electro side. but i did see this vid about the amen break once... and it's pretty interesting.

the vid is boring, but the content isn't. it's kinda long, too. heh. that's what she said.

Search for 'Pandacore' and or 'machinochrist'. It's some really intense industrial drum and bass.

Really Good (y)

Don't listen to these dolts, Bob. They're all misguided-ass bitches. Being "dat kid" and on the scene in the LDN I know whut's rilly good, smell me?

These punks are trying to lead you into obscure or niche shit because they think it will make them look cool. Ignore it.

Here is a little beginner's list of ubiquitous songs (you will hear at least 3 of these at any rave):

Ray Keith - Chopper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrpLjNKv78g) (this is the remix however the original's almost exactly the same)
The Ganja Kru - Super Sharp Shooter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2KZoWLot0g)
Dillinja ft. MC Skibadee - Twist 'Em Out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvwO5gNzo44) (personally I prefer the instrumental version without Skibadee but can't find it on YT)
Pendulum - Tarantula (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fY8bHc53qY)
Mickey Finn & Aphrodite - Bad Ass (Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_Xx7vlgSaU)
DJ Hype - Ready Or Not (DnB Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfMtTOEFuwE) (probably my favourite drop ever at about 2:45)
UK Apache & Shy FX - Original Nuttah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiMnP39O6Og) (CLASSIC)

These tunes are all very accessible and easy to enjoy for someone who knows nothing about DnB. Hopefully you will start with this list and branch into some of the other music by these artists.

And if you can, then I suggest you get the beginner's bible of Drum N Bass classics and hits: Jungle Rewind (http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/126883/VA-DnB-Jungle-Rewind-Mixed-by-Shy-FX-2005).

Erm.. not quite sure who you are referring to here but arent you also trying to look cool by being "dat kid" etc.

Having said that your list of tunes is spot on especially super sharp shooter - forgot all about that one!
Also, remixes are a good way to go as well. I cant find anything on youtube but there are a couple not mentioned here.

Smack My Bitch up - hyper remix - prodigy
breathe and stop - remix - q tip
galvanize (d & b) - chemical brothers

Goldie-timeless is a classic album

DJ Hype is amazing live, really good!

I was about to argue with this statement but i didnt realise you werent talkin about hold your colour. I just heard on Radio 1 a track off the new album thats out in uk next month. The track was called "propane nightmares" and the muse comment is spot on. Fuckin awful.

And you'll be in a band. You'll get laid, man.

Have an open mind. Shit, if someone plays me a bit of good trance, I'll admit it's good trance. That's yet to happen so far, though.

just like to point out that i didnt try and find any trance specifically for you padster and that your comment just made think about a couple of tunes that you and others might be interested in.
also you have completely contradicted yourself by telling mr presentable to be open minded then saying all trance is shit.

Jokes are not neccesarily ha-ha funny, and have many useful conversational functions, including (but not limited to):

Relieving tension
Testing people's sensibilities
A subtle display of opinion
Annoying people you don't like

OK thanks for reading, see you later!

OK thanks for reading, see you later!

- I would have thought you use more conventional methods to relieve tension

- i am not sensible

- from what i have seen you arent subtle when displaying your opinions but thats not a bad thing

- you dont annoy me ,flower, i enjoy the banter.

Oh and just to get back on topic - heard another track from pendulums new album. even worse than propane nightmares.
Am i right in saying that "hold your colour" is more of an anthology of their previous work?

Don't worry mate I'm just pissing about.

Yeah Hold Your Colour is in part made up of songs that had been knocking about for a while, however they remixed some of them to give the album an overall cogent feel. You're right about the new stuff being less than great though... it's pretty shit really.

No worries.

Yeah it just feels like they have gotten ideas above their station or summat. Like they think they have to push boundaries or do "innovative" things when all they have to do is more of the same really. Its as though they have forgotten the basics of what made them good in the first place.

HAs anyone heard anything by High contrast, i have heard good and bad things.
