ps. Id invest in silver asap if I had any extra cash kicking around. it's still a reasonable price and its going to skyrocket too. especially because its being used so much in the electronic/cosmetic/medical industries. its bound to become less readily available in the near future.

THATS THE SPIRIT!
seriously though, at our work we have a problem with people siphoning gas out of workers cars at night. its getting ridiculous in this world. thank god for public transit and sensible shoes.

most people here dont have newer vehicles. though some older models have them it just doesnt seem to be that common.
I find that sort of act just downright dirty.

i think its nothing to be scared about. just abunch of rich assholes flirting around putting value on rocks. sure it affects the economy, but we'll get by. i dont think we'll have another "great depression".

Value of the US dollar plummeted again. Gas is almost $4 per gallon for premium. I can still remember when you could get the cheap gas for 99 cents a gallon, I don't think it was more than 5 years ago.
Whatever, there's not much I can do about it but hope that I don't lose my job.

It is a shitty thing.
Locking gas caps are available at the auto supply stores, I'm pretty sure.

Dirty because you have to suck gas into your mouth in order to get it flowing or dirty because its such a shitty thing to do to another person?

people are investing in gold cause they think it's safer than stocks right now. With the market being as volitile as it is, many investors are paniced and wanting to stash thier money in a safer place. Unlike a CD, or other fairly low risk investments, gold is liquid...there's always someone who will buy gold.
But it won't last. it will drop again. as soon as it starts going down, sell it.
having another stock market crash, is not going to happen. at least it's not going to happen in one day like it did last time. When that happened they put rules in place and if the market starts drop too quickly they halt trading for an hour. when they resume if it continues to drop drastically they hault trading for the rest of the day. So it won't just crash in a matter of a day or a couple of hours.
Depression? Could happen. Not that likely though. The US market hates not knowing who will be president. once we have the elections, odds are things will go into an upswing.
of course there are people out there trying to convince us we aren't in a ressession right now. this is all part of the psychology of the stock market. The more discouraging news they give, the more people pull out of thier investments and things fall apart...so an effort has to be made to quell fears and keep people in.
Long-term investors know that the market will rebound...the question is...When??????????

Can't imagine you did poorly on that test.
Yeah, I'm repeating the phrase "dollar-cost averaging" as a mantram until then.

People see gold as the only real sure thing. So many small investors have pulled their money out of the markets in fear of losing everything. The G7 banks had to resort to putting over 200 billion into the markets to inject liquidity.
I'm with Heiress; invest in silver. There's plenty of it and it's still affordable, despite being at an all time high, as well.

Does your new business extend to the states? How is this done? The last time I had stock, my gramma bought it for me when I was a baby and all I know how to do is sell it.

Growing up, I often had to siphon gas from a portable gas tank into our boat's tank. Getting gas in your mouth really fucking sucks.

yeah, i ran out of gas in the desert in southern utah one hot summer afternoon and siphoned out some gas from another truck via a garden hose i cut down, that had been abandoned by the side of the road. it worked perfect. just enough to get me back to civilization. but yeah, gas in the mouth is aweful.

I remember when I got my first car in 2000 I filled up for about $1.10 a gallon. Now it's about $3.20 and rising. The value of the dollar has actually dropped about 30% since 2002 as well.
But we're under strict instructions not to talk about the dollar. We can talk about my favorite 80's cartoon though. (http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/03/11/dana-perino-under-strict-instructionsto-not-talk-about-the-dollar/)

so far, the shitty economy has resulted in:
a) making my own damn cigarettes
b) passively searching for employment on a bus line considering I live two seconds from downtown
c) shopping at Aldi
d) Being more of a cheapass
none of which are bad things.
Now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I paid full price for something other than necessities. I can't bring myself to spend cash without having to hustle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJgnxdjfTPY) a little first. Friends with employee discounts are like money in the bank.

Yeah when I first started driving petrol was around 80cents a litre. I paid $1.45 today. I've only been driving 4-5 years.

gas went up another couple cents from this morning. its now about 1.22/litre
that's quite near the highest average of last summer about 1.25/litre. of course it was way higher in the bigger cities etc.
so I guess it can only go higher since its always the highest in the summer months. I feel extremely bad for people dependant on cars this summer.
