Wow, how unexpected. I just this morning was reading an article written by him for this past Sunday Times' Culture magazine, about the filiming in Botswana for The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency, which is on the BBC later this week. Weird. Only 54 as well, and as far as I am aware wasn't suffering a major illness. How sad.
edited to add: I just read he had a fatal hemorrage after having a surgery to have a tumour removed from his neck. Bummer.
