What's thr rule of thumb on adopting your middle name?
I mean can you just self declare it?

Cathrine to your parents?...;)
Nope! Just Katy. My dad had a 'heated debate' with the registrar when they went to register my birth. The registrar insisted that Katy was a shortened name of either Catherine/Katharine/Kathleen and they couldn't have it.
He backed down eventually :p
Fancy being pernickety like that, nowadays you can call your children anything virtually.

Sure. It's already your legal name.
Though I have problems with some banks and credit card companies which won't print just my middle and surname on checks and credit cards, etc.

Ian: “Right then,Ian,what’s for lunch?”
Ian2: Cheese and chutney sandwhich, looks like Ian”
Ian: And you Ian?
Ian3: “Bangers and mash, Ian”
Ian 2 and 3 simultaneously: “Mushy peas and brown sauce Ian?”
Ian: “I loathe you both so very, very much…” Proceeds to produce blunt object bludgeons other Ian’s in adjoining cubicles.

When naming your baby Patrick, it's important to consider the gender of the name itself. When people look at the name Patrick, they might ask the question, "is Patrick a man or a woman?", or "what is the gender of the name Patrick?" Some names are more gender neutral than others, and some names are more strongly associated with either males or females.

good thanks, masterson
totally got crunked on magic brownies which led to my friend and I yelling, "ahhh! ice brain!" and "this place is haunted!" over and over because when we were putting some ice in a cooler, a big brain-sized and shaped chunk of ice plopped out, so we decided that meant the campsite was haunted. it was all pretty exciting. I peed in the woods. there was some hatchet-throwing. I almost got trapped in an outhouse. we developed some inside jokes, it was nice. everybody got along really well and there were no crab apples.
