I believe we've got company alot closer than you think...Arthur C Clarke now knows for sure whether we do or not...but he's not tellin...

I'm sure there's other life.

Just curious, don't mean this to come off as an attack.

Does that fall in line with your Christian beliefs? For some reason I thought that most Christian religions refute life on other planets. But I could be wrong.

For the record I absolutely do believe there probably is other life in the universe.

The Bible doesn't specifically say, but there's a passage that says God has named every star. Naming is really important to God and
connotes deep relationship, and when I first read that, my heart just kind of leaped. My spirit reads that passage and I just assume
that means there are others out there.

But, again, the Bible doesn't spell it out one way or the other. Like, it does specifically say we live once only, so I know there's no
such thing as reincarnation. That's explicit. But no word on other life forms.

Here it is:

Psalm 147

New American Standard Bible ©

Praise for Jerusalem’s Restoration and Prosperity.

1 Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.

2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers the outcasts of Israel.

3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

4 He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them.

5 Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.

6 The LORD supports the afflicted; He brings down the wicked to the ground.

7 Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; Sing praises to our God on the lyre,

8 Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who provides rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains.

9 He gives to the beast its food, And to the young ravens which cry.

10 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 The LORD favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His lovingkindness.

12 Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!

13 For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your sons within you.

14 He makes peace in your borders; He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat.

15 He sends forth His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly.

16 He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes.

17 He casts forth His ice as fragments; Who can stand before His cold?

18 He sends forth His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow and the waters to flow.

19 He declares His words to Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to Israel.

20 He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His ordinances, they have not known them. Praise the LORD!

Life in the univers has nothing to do with religion or god,it is way bigger then this human invention. Religion is a human creation to fill this eternity that surround us and it is ok, whatever , but it sure don't explain a thing about what going on in the univers. It rather simplify everything which kinda give me the hives. Being spiritual is alright , having faith and good values, it is all good. BUt putting all that surround us in the hand of a God is absurd.

Really I think it’s pretty much indisputable given the infinite expanse of said universe…it really comes down to what we recognize as life…that’s why religious institutions are feverishly working on a contingency plan for when we get a grip/understanding on what’s actually in frozen H20 on Mars...

Yeah, its the "as we know it" part that trips me up.

We exist in very specific circumstances on this planet. Did we evolve that way because of the conditions? You know, are we the way we are because according to the balance and nature on Earth that's the only way we could be?

If so, who knows what conditions on other planets would create. A being that is comfortable at extreme temperatures? A super heavy being which survives on a low gravity planet? It could be crazay.

^ I think you mean there is 1 0000000000000000000 chances of life in the universe. You forgot to add the 1 before the zeross.

please tell me there is cause getting picked up while hitchhiking, having things shoved up my ass and then dropped off on the side of the road piss drunk is kinda an embarrising story.

Theres a belief out there in the scientific community that the building blocks for what would become the (mostly) carbon based life on Earth in fact were not present on the Earth at its creation, but instead that it is rather abundant in the universe and it found its way here soon thereafter. Mind blowing stuff. Heres a few (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Life-Could-be-Present-all-Over-the-Universe-70749.shtml) links (http://space.newscientist.com/channel/astronomy/astrobiology/dn12911-new-evidence-for-extragalactic-lifeforming-matter.html?feedId=astrobiology_rss20)

i believe there's life on other planets. what people don't seem to realise is that maybe these beings don't need water to live. maybe they dont have eyes, mouths, noses etc. maybe they're invisible blobs or maybe they're so small we can't see them etc.

I listen to this program with my mom on am radio about aliens and psychics and stuff like that. It's pretty interesting, but every caller sounds as if they're about to have a heart-attack.

If life can live here (http://seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov/OCEAN_PLANET/HTML/oceanography_recently_revealed1.html) I'm sure there is life out there.

Anyway, if there is life in outer space i might tend to believe that some will have an humanoid aspect like us if they have similar condition on their planet.

'' planets that orbit stars at distances that leave them not too hot and not too cold, but just right for liquid water to flow on the surface and thus just right - perhaps -for extraterrestrial life to evolve.''

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/02/21/nalien221.xml

But i also believe that if life can exist in others planets with condition that resemble nothing to ours. And then , maybe those extraterrestrial life would have different physical shapes and attributes.

I find it amazing to think about this though, too often we are blind by our own little world and nothing is amazing anymore. But the reality is that we are surround by eternity and lots of others galaxies, so yea, to think that life can exist somewhere else then here on earth don't really change a thing in our life but it maybe make us less egoistical and give us the chance to have a better global vision of our life and are small we are in all this.

Anyway, I would like to live another 200 years or the time that our technology is advanced enough to have discover other world. I am intrigue to know how, if life really exist in others planets, how they evolved and what is the base/values of their systems. But ya know, LOng before us, civilization had astronomical knowledge that take us a while to get. How so? The theory of ancient astronauts might explain this a bit. Beware, i don't believe in that at 100% but it is interesting to investigate.
