I don't really get how it's sexist. Sure there are some women like that. But they find the chumps that go along with them. So if a guy is stupid enough to let himself be led around by the nose, or whatever bodily organ, into a situation he doesn't want to be in, then, you know, that's his own fault for being a sucker.

I read some comments etc. where I saw this posted and there was a certain consensus that it was in a way sexist. I guess this is how it would seem from an opinionated mid-twenties spineless male nihilist.
Some women feel it's unfair that there are all these generalizations about women in this video.

I don't think it's sexist. It's generalized, but a common story. :o I could imagine that some men would reflect a bit after watching that also.

It's interesting that it's mostly men who find this incredibly depressing. Women seem to have the attitude of "yeah, that's about right" and are accepting and not upset by it at all.

In all seriousness, its reminds me of one of those chain e-mails that try to describe your personality based off your shoe size or favorite color.
You throw out enough general statements, and eventually you'll get a few to stick.

It reminded me of a couple I knew first as single friends. Good people, then she pushed to get married (they started have problems pretty fast),
pushed to get a house (they signed off on stuff and wound up with foundation damage and a roof that needed replaced), pushed to have
kids (wound up with two serious brats)... then we lost touch in part because it got seriously unpleasant to be around them.

I think that women are generally accepting that it's a reality for some, but not the vast majority. I don't have any friends with an attitude like that. I think Peachy was right...the spineless idiots that allow themselves to be led by women like that are just as much at fault.
It's just a stupid sterotype that whoever made it thinks they're being witty by perpetrating...

it's a pretty poor attempt at riling women. i think you'd be hard pressed to find women who'd nonchalantly shrug and go "meh, yup. marriage is the highlight of my life, i don't care what sucker i end up with. purely because i want attention 24/7. gimme". if they wanted to make an astute commentary, they failed.
i read in an essay once that someone considered marriage an "intimate colonisation". i thought that was a clever quip. another /flicks through book.. was critical of the institution because "in making women acquiesce to a subordinated role, they are complicit in their own oppression".
hmmm.
no-one i know who has got married would consider themselves "subordinate" or "oppressed". no-one, female or male. the cartoon isn't as smart as it wants to be.

This is certainly not what the cartoon is about.
Whats tricky about it, and why people seem to be reacting to it as sexist, is that the narrator is a woman, so it seems very much to be a statement of the female point of view (albeit subversively) on marriage. It took me a little while to sort this out in my head, but thats not it at all.
Its the male point of view on marriage and what it represents to their lives. Its about the death of the males great idealism about what their lives were meant to be, exceptional, one of a kind, unique, adventurous. On some levels you could argue that this is a childish fiction that needs to be put to bed if a man is going to commit to a "mature" life as a husband and father where his dreams and aspirations, at the very least, are secondary to the family and at the worst are irrelevant to all but him. ALL men go through some form of this (consciously or unconsciously), and it is not silly or stupid or chauvinist, it is just how were wired.
I know a lot of married people, and I think this cartoon represents something I talked a lot of them few, the moment in your mind of crisis about whither or not they are ready to commit to a life that has other people as the central narrative in THEIR story.
Anyway thats my 2 cents.

Does this thread have a girl with a bullhorn saying "They only waNT your Vagina"
If not then I'm disappointed. The answer to the problems are Crablegs and if that doesn't work then Crablegs will
I know a lot of people like that. It's all too common these days, it seems, to live that lifestyle. I would rather stay single all my life than live a marriage like that. It's not in my interest. Not because I fear commitment, I would love to be a husband and a father one day, but not in that fashion. It would be lame and boring, IMO.

you said it brother. i never want to be this guy. unfortunately for some men(me:(), their significant other's biological clock is about to explode...
Yeah, that is another factor. I dunno, man. I'm stuck between two sides now-- one being that I'm the first generation of my family in the US, so a lot of pressure is on me to marry a girl from my ethnicity to keep my heritage alive, and the other side is to marry a girl not from my culture. While yeah, the obvious solution is to do what makes you happy, it's complicated when you're in my shoes. Sorry, I'm sort of derailing the topic, but perhaps at some point and time, you need to consider what makes you happy, and to go with your instincts.
