if you think about it, senor macmanus really does a good job at always opening his albums with a killer song. well except "button your lip" off delivery man, which was really underwhelming to me. good album though.

i know.
i already feel like completely redoing mine.
like- i completely left "all this useless beauty" out of the picture, entirely, along with "north"
i kind of should have included "all grown up" and "god's comic" on there though.

I used "All Grown Up" in a vampire movie once. (y)

Frankly, it'd be easier for me to pick 10 favorite Beatles songs than Elvis.
I mean, hell. 10 favorite Elvis Costello songs. Imperial Bedroom alone has, what? 15?

I do think if I had to pick just one -- just one -- it'd be "Shipbuilding." It's a diamond, man. And it's absolutely humane and gracious, which
some of his best stuff isn't.

The re-write he did of "The Comedians" for that Roy Orbison album is amazing.

...no love for "How to be Dumb"? "Stranger in the House"? "Sleep of the Just"? "The Big Light"? "Jack of All Parades"? "Night Rally"?
I guess I could shut up.

im a super-novice when it comes to elvis costello's catalogue. something ive been meaning to explore for awhile (and will now that I have a basis to start from, thanks to you guys), but I can't get enough of "Everyday I Write the Book". Don't laugh, I dont know where this tune stands among fans of his, nor have i heard a boatload else of his material, but.......I enjoy it much.(y)

his next album will just be released on vinyl (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080320/music_nm/costello_dc), with a download code included. thus eliminating the cd altogether

Why do you have to say that there's always someone
who can do it better than I can?
But don't you think that I know that walking on the water
won't make me a miracle man?

Okay, you made me dig out Imperial Bedroom. I used to adore that album and I haven't listened to it in ages. I can practically remember the first time I brought that album home and put it on the turntable and listened from start to finish while trying to read the lyrics. I'm usually not a lyrics person but I found that experience overwhelming at first. And then the lyrics sheet was difficult to read to I felt like I really had to invest in that album. I didn't get it when it first came out. I bought if after it won a bunch of year end awards from critics. I think I bought Shoot Out the Lights at the same time, for the same reason.
