I may be in your fair city in mid April.
Any tips on good taco joints and fine dining seafood joints?
Any additional touristy type attractions would be appreciated.

If you're up on the Haight, hit the fish taco place that's sort of across the street from Amoeba. Might be a block down, but I remember it
being terrific.
A blue building, if I remember right. Sorry I don't have a name for you.

oh see I thought you were talking about Cha-Cha-Cha. (http://sanfrancisco.citysearch.com/profile/903991) Thats the blue building down from Amoeba. it's actually Latin food...and it is Awesome!!!!!
there's lots of sea food at Fisherman's Warf...but it's a total tourist trap. I don't really recommend unless you just wanna buy a plain old fresh crab.
Check out Northbeach for some great itallian foods and some cool night life. I highly reccomend Vesuvio (http://www.vesuvio.com/) for your drinking needs. it's famous for being an old hang out of Jack Kerouac.

I haven't been there in a couple years, but I used to go there pretty much every time I hit Amoeba. Really good food, nice inside, plus the bathrooms are halfway clean.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy better than that McDonald's. (n)

oh yeah that mickey d's is bum central. it's also tweaker/stoner central.
say if anyone wants to buy drugs in SF all you have to do is walk across the street from the haight Mickey D's to the entrance of GG park and there will be no less than 10 dirty guys holding.
ps. they WILL sell you a quarter bag of Oregano and try to tell you it's pot. It actually happened to someone I know. haa haa.

I'm not a seafood fan but my buddy lives around the corner from this joint (http://www.yelp.com/biz/swan-oyster-depot-san-francisco) and he loves it.

if you like vietnamese food this little hole in the wall (http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&q=vietnamese+food&near=San+Francisco,+CA&fb=1&view=text&latlng=37782124,-122410176,13380303679332665810)is great for some greasy grubin.
However 6th street, south of market is notoriously stetchy. people have been shot in broad daylight (drug deals gone bad) a little further down on 6th near howard (I use to work in that area). So go eat and then get the fuck outta there.
For vietnamese that's a little more classy you can always hit up the Slanted Door (http://www.slanteddoor.com/). it's trendy and more pricey that's for sure, but I've always heard good things about it.

but honestly, you wanna know what one of my FAVORITE places to take outta towners to in SF is?
it's Asia SF (http://www.asiasf.com/index.php) The food and drinks are divine and the entertainment...well that's the real reason to go! they have Asian Drag Queens perform through out the night. SO MUCH FUN. I like to take people there and not mention the drag queen part, then watch how long it takes for them to realizes the chicks are dudes. lol. it's great. DO make reservations, it gets busy on the weekends especially.

The wife is already booked. I'm on the fence - don't want to travel with the boy and don't want to leave him behind.
We just travelled and he cried after seeing us for the first time in a few days.
Thanks for all the tips, I love vietnamese & shady tiki bars.

seriously, having just moved to the area, I like to use yelp (http://www.yelp.com) to find stuff and it tends to work out pretty darn well so far.

my parents told me when they went the trolley was crowded and all you saw was butts. I asked for clarification on this statement and it was explained that because a lot of people were also standing you were at eye level with their butts. This dissapointed me as I thought perhaps there was some sort of a trolley based butt tour thru SF.

Awe, he's just got a little separation anxiety...but you aren't really doing him any favors by staying home with him...he's going to have to learn that mommy and daddy might go away for a little bit but they will come back. My parents traveled quite a bit when I was a kid. My grandmothers usually took care of me when they weren't able to take me on a trip with them, which was good ,cause other wise I might not have gotten to know my grannys very well.

Others have told me the same thing. I just worry because I don't want him to think that every month mamma & dadda disappear. He needs to know we are there for him.
I have to consider the other two trips we are considering this summer too.

I don't know how old your kid is or what other places are on the itinerary this summer, but I'd be concerned about the "kid in a huge city"
thing. Especially if the kid is prone to wandering off. Or if I had to deal with a stroller.

I stopped counting after 8.
Very impressed with your city.
I love the health conscious green feel to it.
Haight Ashbury made me a bit sad.
I didn't realize the weather there is so mild. I guess we picked a good weekend.
Funny to see people wear coats when it's 70+ outside.
Had fantastic meals at both Chaya & Aqua.
330 Ritch was cool, Harlot was lame, The Americano (sp) was cool. We went to Boss but they wanted to charge us a cover so we broke. That seemed like a fun spot.
It seems like there is a lot of weed smoking going in cars all over downtown.
Loved the people. We chatted up this woman in GG Park who offered to get us in the De Young on her membership. We met a dude that knows people in the industry and he was putting us on lists and gave us his number in case we needed anything.
I wish I could have spent more than two days there. I would have loved to rent one of those yellow go-carts and get a little sauced and cruise around.
I told my wife SF is my exit plan should we get divorced. Lot's of gay guys + lot's of hot asian broads running around…it seems like I would be business. One girl we talked to was very animated about the shortage of quality straight guys.
A -
The minus is for the earthquake fears you have to deal with and the strange smell of your tap water

I'm so pleased to hear you had a great time! Yes you can easily spend 4 or 5 days here...esp if you want to rent a car one day and travel the coast. there's so much to do, two days is alot to cram it all in.

Yeah, we didn't sleep Saturday night and I'm still exhausted. I think a long 4 day weekend would be ideal.

Acqua is cool, but Tadich Grill is less pretentious -- and right next door.
Glad you enjoyed it. SF is a fine place, if I do say so myself. I'm working on having them rename it "San Francisco, home to the marsclan"
PS. The tap water probably threw you off because you're not used to the "natural" stuff -- natural as in, 3 sewage spills in the past 3 months and a little oil spill you may have heard about (http://www.boatingsf.com/busan.php).
