so for the past 2 weeks i've been slaved into working the night shift (6pm to 6am) on this construction site and i never knew how much it would suck.
i think maybe a regular 8 hour shift wouldnt be so bad, but this 12 hours a day 5 days a week shit is tiring. by the time i wake up and get moving, i have just enough time to shower, make something to eat and then i have to pack myself up food for the next days work.
on the other side of things, i am going to put my $25 parking ticket down for reembursement on the grounds that if i were working my normal sallaried hours, i wouldnt have been there when they checked. (my only other ticket at this current location was my one sick day since they check around noon)

well thankfully tonight is my last night for a while, but basically i am switching back and forth every 2 weeks.
before i started at this job they were doing 10 hour shifts, but they uped it to 12's to get past this certain point faster, and now that we are past that point, they don't eem to want to go back down to 10.

boring? well...
when they are actually advancing, then i keep pretty busy. but if not, then yes. ive rigged up my ipod with some speakers to keep me sane, and i end up either sleeping or mowing through magazines all night.

i don't know, it seems alright, depending on the kind of work you're doing. the guys at my work who do the overnight shift seem to actually enjoy it. I think there's a lot of freedom to do whatever you want. And since no-one's up at that time, it's a different breed of people about.

man, looking back, that shift does suck. It's the same shift I had working in the prison
Can't get anything accomplished during the mid day cause you just want to sack out from exhaustion when you get home.
Yeah bro, it's rough.

I considered doing it at my job because the shift differential would work out to about $6000 extra each year but fucccccck that.

I did it for a couple of years, including during my first year of law school. I was younger then but it does fuck you up. Friends don't want to go out during your time off and even though I had the darkest room-darkening shades available, I never really got a good sleep during the daytime. Wait till summer when neighbors start mowing their lawns!
Still sounds pretty boring.

the only time working midnights wasnt bad was when I worked for Pepsi stocking shelves for a summer. It was three 12 hour days, but the union regulations stated that anything over 8 hours in a day was double time pay. When my third day was done, I had pretty much an entire week to sit on my ass.

by the time i get done with this project, i should have about 9 months at my current job (started in mid august), and i am definitely going to request my evaluation or what not. they say they will do them every 6 months but from the looks of things, the boss never does it unless you keep asking for it.
in either case, i think this is reason enough to demand a few more dollars on my paycheck. i signed up for a 40 hour a week sallaried job and while its nice getting the varied experience (the desk gets boring after a while), this shit sucks. i've done a months worth of this work and i think i could train a monkey to take my place.
