I went and had bloodwork done today, and got picked a total of 12 times. I walked out of the hospital with bandages all up and down my arms, and some guy made a comment to his wifey and I nearly cried but instead threw him the finger.

The stupid phlebotomists even tried using a "butterfly" (which they apparently use on babies and really old people) on me 7 times- twice in my hand.

Two of the lab workers failed miserably at their jobs, and I'm sooo tempted to file a complaint with the hospital. Not only have they fucked my hand and arms up (they ACHE/feel so weak right now), but I kept hearing them out in the hallway with other patients waiting/listening in saying "She won't bleed. There's something wrong. Blablabla! She won't bleed. She has to come back another day."

Thankfully, third time's a charm. I felt bad for screaming at the right lady, 'cause I'm human and can only handle so much.

Nobody cares, but whatever.

Well, I don't have the HIV, or Hep, or whatever other STDs there are out there. Been down that road before because of my asshole ex. Thankfully I'm STD-free!

But I could be diabetic. :"(

My cholesterol's really awesome, though!

I donated blood yesterday and nearly fainted before I got out, even tho I'd been lying for some extra time with
my feet up after they took the needle out (I've felt weak before and once before almost fainted as well).
They were already closing, but they let me lie there for half an hour and I got a carrier bag full of bread to take with me
(there's always rolls and sandwiches, fruit, coffee and other drinks for the doners to enjoy before and after so they'd feel alright)
as they always have to use fresh bread. Then I got a free taxi home.
It was my 28th time to give blood, so you'd think I'm used to it, but my bloodpressure just sank rapidly.
Next time I gotta eat and drink much more. This time I actually went there for the free food as times are a bit tight at the mo...

That's cute, and sad after your last sentence, ^thar. :(

I actually tried to donate blood last summer because I was desperate for monies but was turned away because of a similar situation. They couldn't find a damn vein/I wouldn't bleed. At all.

I'm surprised I handled yesterday's fiasco as well as I had. Then again, I can tolerate pain really well it seems. And I watched them through the whole process like it was nothing. But I'm afraid there's something wrong with me. Poor circulation or whatever. No idea. My arms are really tiny???

It'll be fun when I start classes for phlebotomy in the fall, though! Maybe I'll get out of being a guinea pig for when we practice on each other. Harhar!

Some peoples veins are just small and deeper than others. I had a similar experience to yours when they were hooking me up to an IV pre-apendectamy surgery when I was 15. And at my old doctors office they often had trouble getting my blood pressure because they couldn't hear my heart beat through the veins in my arm. My veins are just deep and anybody inexpereinced has a hard time drawing my blood or setting me up with an IV.

The only person I really trust to draw my blood is my mom. She use to be a phlebotomist and she's incredibly talented at it. She can draw your blood without you even feeling it. I swear. She can find anyones vein on the first try, no matter how difficult.(y) yay mom!

the only time i gave blood i was like maybe 10. they used what looked like a tiny super soaker. this gun type thing with a needle and a glass vile on it. needles nor blood doesn't bother me. never has. it didn't bother me when they put the tiny super soaker needle in me, but as soon as she pulled the trigger to fill the vile with blood i passed out and turned white as a ghost. when i came to i barfed all over the place.

I had my blood tested about a year ago. I was told not to eat or drink anything for 10 hours before (i wasn't told i could drink water). I didn't mention that i have a bit of a problem with blood, so the lack of water didn't help. Once the nurse did what she had to do, she left and told me to hold onto my arm and wait for her. feeling woozy and hot i tried to distract myself, i looked to my side and saw about ten viles full of blood and i figured they were all mine so i slowly began to pass out, but the nurse caught me before i fell. Good times (y)

Some people have the knack for it and some just don't. My mom's friend worked in a hospital and she was specifically set for duty in cases like mine.

I have massive veins, very easy to find. Last time I had blood taken they wouldn't use the biggest vein in my arm as they said it could bleed too much.
