I was thinking of starting this thread, but I couldn't be bothered, so big floppy bonus points to you for that!
I have to agree. Season 11 started showing signs of not only jumping the shark, but doing a quadruple somersault over it and landing in a big flaming vat of rubbish plotlines and slightly off voices. Season 12 has been like watching a train plow straight into a car crash, only more horrific.
I laughed at Kenny and Kyle's dad wrestling naked in the sandpit annnnd.... that was about it. There are few jokes, and they are all so overdone that it's like a big joke is burying itself into my face and shouting - "Hey, I'm a big joke, and I'm burying myself into your face!". Or something.
They should probably just pull the plug mid-season and make another film instead. Not another South Park film though.

South Park used to have some nuance to it underneath all the dirty. Now it's just obvious and overly topical. No one will laugh at this stuff in a year. The last episode where they met all the youtube stars was the perfect example of lazy they've gotten. I thought South Park was above the level of all those "__ Movie" movies.

Season 11 is new in the UK. They're up to season 12 in the US and I'm keeping up with the yanks and being all downloady and stuff. I wish I hadn't bothered though :(
One of my major gripes (along with the voices being nothing like they used to be) is the complete lack of any background noise. It's as if they just record the half-assed voices on their lunch and chuck them over a silent animation at the last minute. There's no ambience to any of the episodes.
Or substance.
Or humour.
Or anything remotely interesting.

i think the falling animated shows go all around though. Nothing seems fresh. But still good for some laughs. Only the BIG BIG episodes are funny anymore... The turrets ep wasn't too bad, Scientology was hyped up and was pretty good. but its only like 1 good episode per season now.

Disagree 1000000%.
I think it's not only as good and as funny as in earlier seasons, but I find it to be must see critique of our fucked up culture. I get the foreigners not liking it, but fuck them, what the hell do they know about why South Park is genius critique of America. Plus balls out funny. Anyway I still think so. I've found the last 2 seasons to be as strong (if not stronger) than any 2 seasons in their run. Those guys are amazing at what they do.

You know, background noise was one of my big gripes with the Simpsons circa season 10 (or whenever it got shit). There was just the voices, no ambience or anything.

I haven't seen anything of the latest season yet, but south park kinda lost my interest over the years anyway. I watch it when there's nothing else on, and I laugh at it, but I don't do any trouble to find it anymore.
It used to be innovative and rude and funny, but because american series run for a gabillion years and have 3000 episodes a series, it's hard for them to stay original and 'cutting edge' or whatever.
That's why I like how british shows work. About 6 episodes a series and 4 series max. Quality over Quantity 'nshit.

i gotta disagree with pretty much everybody in this thread. i think south park started getting good after season six, and was pretty brilliant up through the end up season 11. i can't judge 12 because i haven't seen any of it. but it seems like the more people seem to think it's falling off, the more i think it's improving (not because i want to be different, i'd like it if other people appreciated it more). but then again, i think family guy is completely unfunny, predictable, stupid, braindead tripe for morons, and most people i know, including all my friends, think it's pretty funny. so i guess it's just personal taste.
"no it's not, south park really does just suck."
whatever.
either way i think it kills every other cartoon out there, especially the endlessly stupid shit on adult swim. well except metalocalypse which is fucking awesome.

yeah, see, i thought the first four seasons were almost unbearingly unfunny and relied only on shock value for its jokes. i really don't understand why people prefer that to the new stuff. i'm sure some of you will point out why though.
i watched an episode the other night where cartman pretends to have tourettes. wasn't that great but the dude who worked for/with the tourettes was a classic.
"PISS... ASS... PISS UP MY ASS!"
"PISS FROM MY ASS!!!!"
edit: what season is this episode from? anyone?

fuck that, I previously stated I love me some South Park, though its getting the stale factor the Simpsons fell into for a while, but I'll take some [adult swim] over any fucking show. Not just Family Guy of when they ran Futurama, I love boondocks, athf, sealab, brak, squidbillies, thats just the stuff they have, when they ran Garth Marengies* Dark Place I laughed harder at that than anything
*dont know how to spell it correctly.

You have a point; however, it seems to me that South Park is still trying to rely on shock value too much. Except now, it's not shocking anymore, it just seems phoned in. Mr/Mrs. Garrison and his/her penis subplot? That was pretty stupid I thought. And the youtube celeb fight/bloody massacre? meh.

I agree with Auton, it has gotten progressively better and I actually find season 12 to be just as good. I can see why people think that it has gotten topical, it has, and there's no refuting that. But why can't they make fun of things from todays headlines? John Stewart has been doing that for years, at least South Park hasn't spent eight consecutive years and HUNDREDS of episodes taking as many shots at the Bush administration as possible.
