Where would you choose to live?

For me,

1. NYC - Penthouse Loft in the Village or Central Park East.
2. Italian Rivera - One of those sprawling Villas right on the Ocean.
3. Scotland - A Castle near a lake. I've been there once when I was a kid and Scotland is one of the most beautiful countrysides you'll ever see.

Just missing the cut were a place in the hills of Japan, Kauai Hawaii, San Francisco, a Lake House in Canada.

I'd go with a place in NY as well, probably Upper East, near the museums and with a nice view of the park.

For my 'beach house', I'm thinking a little town on the Costa Brava called Aiguablava.

Finally I'll need a mountain house. I'm thinking somewhere in the Alps, possibly somewhere in Germany.

I thought about Japan as well but I have to say having been there, I loved visiting but I don't know that it's a place I'd really want to live, per se. But I figure if I is so damn rich I got me three houses all over the place anyway, then I fer damn sure can afford to go there and visit, right?

Oh also I just remembered I might need to have a villa in Tuscany, too. So I need four houses, then, really.

i'll get you three forclosures in homewood/brushton for about 20 grand total, alright?

no worries, they will all be solid brick houses with 3 or 4 bedrooms a piece

i haven't seen enough of the world to be specific but it would definitely be one in each setting;
City-almost certainly a mahoosive penthouse NY
Sea-probably pacific somewhere or europe(not, like, weston super mare)
Mountains-i read bhutan is the most beautiful place on earth but i figure if i've got a house in the mountains it's gotta have great snowboarding potential nearby too and i'm not sure if bhutan has that.

i have no desire to live in NYC like most of you.

a nice apartment in downtown Washington DC, you know, the nice area.

a big house with a rockin pool in Vegas.

a large London flat, possibly.

i think the 3rd one would change often.

I'd have a large loft in Stockholm with a huge roof garden, preferable by Mosebacke or somewhere near Slussen.
A country mansion in Milton Keynes (east side of the canal) which my kid sister could take care of when I'm not there.
A luxury Winnebago-type (http://www.winnebagoind.com/products/winnebago/vectra/) house on wheels so I can travel all around the world and have my house with me, like a snail. :D

Vancouver, B.C. - primary residence
Manhattan - cultural stuff
Costa Rica - vacations

Mine may sounda kinda lame but oh well
1. A loft in downtown Cleveland (it's home and for that reason my favorite place to be)

2. A large house in the Mountains near Salt Lake City (the majority of my family lives there)

3. My beach place, probably in Ibiza or maybe Costa Rica

That is an amazing idea-i used to be one ofthe great hoards of (new age-apparently)travellers in this country-living in various trailers, buses, trucks etc and i always said if i ever got rich i'd have a totally luxurious, bloody massive truck. just not very eco-friendly tho really. i would like all my residences to be self-sufficient.

We could be neighbors.

May I borrow a cup of flour? And some coconut milk.

Looks like we're all going to be neighbours because number one choice would be New York City.

I'd also like a palatial villa overlooking the port in Mahon, Menorca.

And i really don't think i could leave my roots behind, so i'd pick a cosy cottage in the Yorkshire Dales.

A house and the two houses either side of it so that I never have to talk about the weather with anybody over a fence when I'm emptying the bin / bringing the washing in.

Plus, then I could build a rickety extension between all three houses and have one big house. Superhouse... yeah.

Yorkshire~Rose

^ ^^another great thing about Iceland is no matter how highly rated they are in terms of quality of life, there's a whole hell of a lot of people who aren't going to move there cause they can't take the climate or the excessively dark winters (only 4 hours of sunlight). So I don't think they have to worry about getting too crowded. the most they are likely to get is seasonal people who come for the excessively long summer days(only 4 hours of darkness)...but even then you're looking at a high of 70 degrees. well with global warming who knows that might jump up. still. most people are not going to move to Iceland. Iceland seems cool enough, but I can't say it'd crack my top 3.
There's just not enough culture there.
I imagine it to be like living on the edge of the earth.
If seclusion is what you're after then it seems ideal.

There's just not enough culture there.

actually, for being so remote, the capitol city of Reykjavik is quite modern and hip. there's a big music/club scene there. Entertainment and art is really important to them because they need something to rally around in the dark cold winter months. Weekends are huge and the pubs/nightclubs all stay open til about 4 or 5 am. Hipsters fly over from Norway and shit just to party for the weekend. They have couture fashion boutiques with trendy clothing, too. I think people think they dress like knomes and live in little grassy cottages carved out of a hillside, but that's not the case in Reykjavik. They've got their finger on the pulse.

Now the landscape of Iceland, that is almost like visiting another planet or being on the edge of the world. there's theses crazy lava feilds, tons of rugged tundra, waterfalls, geysers and I even visited the place where the tectonic plates of europe and the atlantic ocean are slowly moving away from each other.

If anyone has the time and is truly interested you can check out the travel page I created for Iceland back in '02. I wrote quite a detailed article about my adventures and the people I met. There are also photos...(make sure you scroll down a bit to get the article and the photo sections)

hey thanks for taking the time. (y) It was a great trip for me, and I think it's pretty different form how most people envision it.

I would really like to go back...and yeah I would totally consider having a part time residence there if I were wealthy enough.
