Just out of curiosity what kind of grooming do you fellas do and how often? Off the top of my head, I get my haircut once a week, I try to get a pedicure/manicure once a month, and I get my brows waxed every few weeks. Also I dunno if this counts but I tan every now and then depending on the season and my schedule....

So the ladies can participate, what about your boyfriend/husbands? Or just what sort of things should guys do and how often?

I get a haircut pretty much every fucking day.

DH gets his hair cut about once a month. Fingernails he does himself as needed; toenails could do with a bit more attention IMO but so long as they are not slashing me under the covers, it's his business. I keep an eye on his brows for him and tweeze as needed. He is very fastidious about his facial skin care routine and shaving, I must say. It's like a 25-step daily ritual or something.

i have to complain on a daily basis before mine will get a haircut if he needs it. i like super clean cut. he doesn't really care.

he's pretty diligent about his nails, but he does them on his own.

i just finally got him using American Crew pomade (he slicks his hair back mostly) and Paul Mitchell shampoo and soap.

I gets' the Brooklyn fade every 10 day's...which comes with a scalp treatment/massage…I do a full shave every other day and a ½ shave on the odd day’s (under chin/cheeks)…no shave on weekends, skin recovery…maintain my eyebrows,so they don’t unite and take over my face, once a week along with nails and toes whenever she pulls out her emery boards and that little kit you dames have…whatever renegade back hair appears she seems to take some sort of perverse pleasure in yanking it from my back….even while I’m asleep…(n)

Hiarcut once every two weeks or so. Clip nails when needed. I use deodorant every day, and use cologne as well (Eternity at the moment). I also brush my teeth twice a day, and take a shower once a day.

In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

I've wondered what it would be like to go to a barber and ask for my full shave. Wonder what that costs.

I cut my hair about every 6 months. I get it cut short to about a 3 setting on the clippers, and let it grow until im not lazy anymore and cut it again.

I bite my finger nails so they are not Bernie Mac style.

Cut my toenails when they start cutting up the wife when we are asleep.

Once a year or so, i take care of my unibrow by plucking.

Shave the ball sack every now and again, trim everything else in the front.

2 bits?

I get a haircut about every two to three months. I use a little styling glue when it is real short and spiky, then it goes into its awkward in between short and long pompadour Elvis phase. then it turns into a butt-cutt Jim Carrey look. that's when I tell myself I'm growing my hair out and wear hats for a couple of weeks. then I break down and eventually get the same cut from the same little lady at Fantastic Sam's down the street.

I shave about once a week- my girlfriend likes the scruffy look. when the moustache starts itching the face, it's time.

I have dry skin from my grandpa, so I try to moisturize daily. I like an alpha-hydroxy- name brand or pharmacy brand is fine. i recently discovered a good lotion with borage oil, but it is elite and only is sold at whole foods and organic places and it cost too much.

I recently quit biting my nails but I am still fixated with them, so I constantly run my other nails underneath each other and usually file and clip them on a daily basis.

i get my haircut usually every 3 months or so, usually once per season. usually when a holiday comes around.

i trim the beard about once a month during the cold months, and every 7-10 days during the summer. sometimes more often if its real hot out.

i trim nails and brow and whatever else up whenever i feel that it needs done, which isnt that often until something starts to bother me. usually my feet end the summer looking kind of gross since i wont wear shoes unless i really have too.

i want to get a pedicure to try and clean up my feet, but a friend told me they were a little too gross to even do that at the time. but i don't know, i figured they would be able to fix my problems...

Hey…here’s a query what about hair growing out a mole…I used to work with a Cantonese guy who had this mole on his cheek with a wicked nasty jet black 4 inch hair growing out of it and he explained that it was really bad mojo/luck to trim hair that grows out of a mole…I’ve also heard that if you have 2 hairs growing out of the same mole it might be more prone melanoma…I only have one such offender on my back and I yank them when I can grab them…hmmmmm….deep thought…??

I generally shave every other day or so. Manicures terrify me (no rational reason), but since my gf is going through beauty school I gave in and got a facial.

Truth be told, it worked better than any of my attempted skin care rituals - and once a week isn't too bad considering it comes with a scalp massage etc. Whenever we get around to living closer to eachother I might try to get those on a regular basis.

shave my own head once every two weeks.

I shave my stubble and peach fuzz once every three days.

I think the term is Metro-Sexual.

I shit, shower, and shave daily.
I brush my hair with a towel after I get out of said shower.
I don't need to "Manscape" because I'm not a hairy animal.

Excessive grooming is a sign of insecurity IMO.

mathcart

I tend to be all the way over on the lower maintenance side of the spectrum.
I get my hair cut once every 3-6 months depending on how much I want to channel my inner Jimmy Dean.
I shave once a week- I dig the scruff and would much rather sleep a little later than shave most mornings- I break down when my faces is literally yelling at me to shear it. Plus I find that enormously satisfying- going from a weeks worth of itchy/borderline painful stubble, I have a thick beard, to shaving it clean in a few minutes- I find it similar to the satisfaction I got as a little kid when I would scratch an itchy chicken pox off my body (yeah its a little gross, but fuck that- it makes the list of most satisfying feelings in this lifetime, I mean I was 5 when I had I had the chicken pox and I can recall clear as f'n day that feeling. Thats sayin' something).
Other than the daily shower and cutting my own damn nails(!) when I notice a need (once every few weeks about) I'd say thats it.
I think I may have accidentally de-metro-sexualized this thread. sorry.

My ex does his own nails (doesn't go as far as proper mani/pedi though, just a trim, shape & buff), used a weekly mask and pore packs twice a week...he cleansed and moisturised his face every morning, and exfoliated once a week at least.

I often wished he'd get his eyebrows waxed, to neaten them. eh. Doesn't matter now, I guess.

aargghh! /shudder. oof, i hate that. it makes me cringe. especially when the nails hit the sole of your foot at the arch aagghh argghhh away! AWAY!

current boyfriend looked waaaay too impressed when i shaved his face a couple of times at the lack of blood and general neatness. i was like.. well, shit. of course it's better than 40 seconds of blindly slicing at your face sans mirror while you're in the shower, you fool.

the ex took greater care of his feet and hands than i do with mine. i'm terrible. he was verging on the edge of monobrow territory so he stole my £12 tweezerman tweezers a couple of times. i swear, those tweezers have some holy engineering to make them so good. i can't go back now. so when he had to revert to 'normal' boots tweezers he was like 'fuck, i can't get this 0.22mm hair! i have to buy some tweezermans!' sure enough, he did. and they were only in hot pink. teehee.

he loved baths, too. he thought showering was a bit proletariat  like hosing down a horse. so he was well into his pampered evenings of bubbles and steaming hot baths. god, i want a bath now.

a male colleague of mine made me take his picture, seriously.. i don't know.. about 60 times for the staff page i was creating for our office website. he booked an appointment to get his hair highlighted in advance so he could look his best. but he was just never happy with my photographs. in the end i said dude, i'm giving you an option of three and you are choosing one. i've had enough reflecting natural light off your forehead with a3 sheets of white paper to last me a lifetime.

ahaha. well, the point is you think it is ridiculous for men to go 'over the top' and elaborate 'simple' grooming procedures into 'feminine' (or homosexual as you so delightfully put it) routines by taking it, in your eyes, that one step too far. you didn't have to add the bubbles to the bath for you to shave your balls (ahaha, what a wonderful sentence). you could have just had a bath, or a shower, and done it then. but you chose to make it more pleasant by adding some moisturising fluffy playful bubbles : ) i mean, who wouldn't make an experience nicer by adding these little perks, hrm?

mikizee

i didn't say that at all. i'm just explaining how the thought process you have attributed to pedicures etc could equally be applied to your shaving-scrotum-in-a-bubble-bath scenario.

same way you say a shower just doesn't cut it when shaving - some men, they need a bit more than just a snip of the ole nails, you know?

i think it's interesting that men who engage in these activities are now seen as participating in gay behaviour when maybe 20 years ago they would have been thought of as gentlemen.

everyone likes to look good, right? male/female/gay/straight. so.. meh. i just think a dude should be able to apply a bit of moisturiser without being called a fag.

She cut them pretty short, I thought, and I was kind of sad because for 20 years or whatever, all I'd had were bitten nails.

But anyway, now I know what to do.

I usually do a haircut about once every 1.5 months... no real schedule, but when I can see my hair by glancing upwards then I know it's time to cut it. Or.... when I can reach in the back and actually GRAB some hair, then I figure I had better get it cut.

Shaving I do pretty infrequently, probably once every three or four days. I'm one of those guys who don't really grow much facial hair and I still look like I'm in middle school or something... really I only grow it a little bit in the mustache area, the mutton chops area, and I could probably grow a wicked throatee.

Fingernails I do once a week. Usually on Sundays. Myself. Nothing special.

I hate dealing with my own feet. I don't particularly think feet are gross, I love women's feet... but my own are pretty nasty because I walk a lot and stand a lot between my two jobs. So, I get a pedicure about once a month. Let them deal with it and I pay 'em well enough. Plus it feels nice.

As far as "manscaping" goes... I handle all that usually on the regular in the shower. Sometimes only every other day... but always in the shower. Now if only I could figure out how to reach my back with the damn razor...

21 posts....I'm actually surprised it took someone 21 posts to make the classic homosexual reference here. It doesn't bother me though I like to take care of myself plain and simple. I don't think it's any different from going to the gym or trying to eat right...I don't think it has anything to do with sexuality

That's cuz I just came in.

Tanning, dude? Seriously??

So yesterday I had a really shit day so I went after work and got my hands and nails done. It was nice and relaxing and helped improve my mood. Also while I was getting my feet done a hot girl came in and got in the chair next to me...we struck up a conversation and long story short we're going out soon probably this weekend....if that's gay then I guess I'll take it

The girl is obviously a lesbian

You should look into the electric back shaver coincidentally called the mangroomer.

(!)

I never knew there was such a thing.

I've got this really downy sort of wing-shaped hair on my back I don't like. I've been able to talk exactly one girlfriend into shaving it,
and only one time.

Wow. I'd seriously consider buying that.

I was gonna say the same thing.

Whatever.

I don't like a guy to be too groomed but definitely don't overgroom the eyebrows. Too many women do that and it doesn't look good on anyone.

But there's nothing wrong with keeping your shit right. It seems like the sticking point here for most of the guys is the pedicure but I gotta say, some guys have really nasty looking feet. One of my friends does and sometimes looking at his crooked, mangled toes, long, yellow-ass toenails and scaly heel skin makes me want to vomit.

Just thinking about making someone touch and work with my feet for an hour makes me feel sick. I mean, as far as feet go I don't have any problems, they are fine, nothing bad about them, but I really feel like I'd be ruining someone's day by sticking my foot in their face for an hour. Why would I put any decent human being thru that? Its disgusting.

Boy, maybe my feet aren't as bad as I thought they were. An hour? Not even close.

umm, you're not making them do anything. that's their profession, they chose to work with feet AND GET PAID DOING IT. and you can really make their day by giving them a fat tip! also, i don't see it as any different than massaging someone (which we all know i've done) or giving facials or whatnot.

i wonder what would happen if mikizee's Dr. prescribed him a colonoscopy. :p

i got a pedi yesterday and now i actually have a regular pedicurist, YAY! she was tatted out and pretty. we talked about tattoos the whole time and she picked a color for me that would make my foot tattoo stand out. that RULED. we even had a similar star tattoo, which was neat. i asked her about the guy thing and she said she gets about one guy per week. last week she had 3 men in a row on one day.
