i am avoiding researching a presentation i have to give for a job interview on press/pr strategies by looking at.. advertising campaigns.
what are your favourite/most loathed television commercials?
ones from your childhood, present, whatever. if possible provide a youtube link tah.
it's an obvious choice, but the guinness/smirnoff ones are always cinematic and really impressive. obviously because they have an enormous amount of money behind them. the most recent 'sea' campaign from smirnoff (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JCbeP5Fjyw) is excellent (and cost 5 million to make.. youch).
on the cheaper, more local side of the advertising alcohol spectrum.. the john smith adverts with peter kay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFSLUJ8SIbc). very clever - not trying to be appealing to all and sundry, just trying to connect with a very british sense of humour.
what say youze? celebrate commercial culture! consume it! yeaaaah! ughhh.

One of my personal favorites was the Emerald Nuts with Robert Goulet. cause it's weird and hillarious. don't like some of th newer emerald nuts ones with the addicted to love girls (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nb0urLl-G44) or swiss family robinson (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Ohc37DKtZMc)...those are too weird to be funny. but Mr. Goulet got it just right!

bad adverts. bad british adverts. there are loads out there. think claire, think.
EDIT: got it! HALIFAX. halifax adverts are the worse.
as exemplified above.. it's generally a bad idea to combine amateur singing and commercials.
this goes one step further (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw1mAIivjrE) - because they're not actors or professionals singing, oh no, they are actual members of staff of various halifax branches. the 'rapping' just.. no.. i can't watch it.

I'm way too lazy to participate properly, but the one where the girl gets in the car and farts and then her date gets in the car and says, "Can't you just feel the chemistry in the air?" And the people in the backseat say, "We sure felt it all right!" Awesome. I have no clue what product/service they are trying to peddle with that one though.

Everybody hates commercials. Nobody goes out of their way to see them. Nobody says: "Fuck, I wonder what the next breakthrough in detergent advertising will be". Your hate for commercials would be more effective if you didn't have to funnel it through other people.

No need. I'm just saying; you say you hate commercials, yet you don't seem to have a reason any more compelling than it giving you an excuse to post a Bill Hicks bit. I don't see your opinion, I just see Bill Hicks making a case more articulately than you have.
I'm not offended or anything. It's just funny when people go "Man I fucking hate that" or "I feel this way or that way" by posting songs or video.

This seems to be a thing that people feel on this board, and frankly, I don't get it. I've always been of the opinion that anything I think or feel has been felt before and more importantly been expressed much more eloquently than I could. In fact I think theres a real art to presenting the right link or quote that perfectly sums up how you feel. I dunno, thats just the way I feel, but maybe my feelings would best be expressed by this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWWiDDZPGoU&feature=related)...yikes!

Funny of your hatred for commercials when you're sportin' something from an album cover as your avatar. Wouldn't you consider that as a form of commercialism?
If it weren't for a form of commercialism for music, we'd be just a group of local fucks in different states listening to some non known local band and porking our sisters thinking we're cool.
So you hate it if you're waking down the street and see a sweet ass flyer posted on a post of your favorite band? You don't get hyped?
And for general pop commercials such as food, auto parts, cars, outdoor equipment, pregnancy tests, I think I'd go for one that's actually bold as to show the commercials nationwide rather than the product being that scary brand in the corner that you have no knowledge of.
Do you just walk into aldi's and buy just a sixer of white cans of beer with "BEER" written across it?

Playing a shitty ass jingle off the bat aimed towards certain franchises and pushing it to them and getting declined. That's brilliant. Makes the said franchises not even have to think twice.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYC8fTv2jp4)is probably the best ever... along with some milk commercial from the late 80's/early 90's (I think,) that was some sort of tribute to A Clockwork Orange. They reenacted the scene where Alex throws Dim and Georgie into water, except, instead of water, they used milk.

the commercials i hate the most are for pills like viagra etc., hummers, cars shallow nonsense, weight loss etc. etc. advertising has gone way too far in america. consumerism is so disgusting. it's all about $$$. i just think there are more important things in life than the hot NEW cell phone that has a radar and gives you a manicure at the same time.
and my avatar is part of a painting by john wayne gacy.
advertising for music isn't as bad as the stuff i mentioned. it's like it's being force fed down our throats on a daily basis. no matter where you go.

There is a French commercial for Audika hearing aids showing on TV now. I can't find it on youtube but it's one of the most god awful ones I've seen in a while.
