Geography dictates I pull for Calgary…but my hearts with the Habs and my money’s on Ottawa….

Calgary takes San Jose in 5…

Ya hear me A-Z?

I actually think the Sharks might get the cup this year. I really think they might.

That shut you up, huh.

No, but seriously. Our guys are back, and I really think they're going to get this done for Roenick. Adding Campbell and Shelley have
really given them a kick in the ass. Hell, Thornton was even fighting recently.

It’s on cabron!...loser picks up the dry garlic spare ribs and the first jug of draft….;)

Seriously Lord Stanley is overdue to be returned to the rightful side of the border…one more year that a non-hockey market wins it and we have to invade…it’s in our constitution…

Nahhhh.

Hey -- did you know that I actually met Wayne Gretzky back in the day? I had no idea who he was, but he was a honoree at this bank a
friend of mine's father owned. So we had this banquet, and I was 15 at the family's table, brazenly ordering and downing shots of vodka
while this ceremony was going on. Then they had me talking with him afterward, shake his hand, etc. I know nothing about hockey,
so I was pretty much confined to "How's your trip?" etc.

They've got to be frustrated from falling apart so many times. That's part of where I think Roenick is really going to help them keep
their shit together. And Cheech is supposed to be back, Marleau has gotten better...

Ahhh the Weiner!...as we know and love him…we had such high hopes when he started to coach…to no avail…I think he’s terribly frustrated…I went to a wedding years ago that Messier and Mike Vernon were rip roaring drunk at the reception for…Vernon groped the bride and later in the night got knocked out by a groomsman after the happy couple had departed…

I've been a die hard Wings fan since 1995, so I'll have to pick them. They look as good as ever and the only team I think that has a chance at knocking them off might be the Sharks...if they keep their end of the bargain and make it to the conference finals.

abcdefz

Here's how our paper covered it:

From Mercury News:

To the Sharks, the string of Calgary penalties was justified.

"If you go over and look at every call, there's a perfect reason for the penalty," Pavelski said.

But Flames Coach Mike Keenan suggested he felt otherwise when asked about the calls.

"I'll share those thoughts with the league and the supervisor of officials," he said.

...the sports columnist just casually referred to it as "drawing penalty after penalty" as if it were a given. No real commentary about it.

Haven't been to the Sharks' website to look at the forum there yet.

DIGI, I've been a Wings fan since 1995 when they shellacked Patrick Roy 11-2 or whatever the score of that game. Since then, I've been a loyal fan.

Unlike everyone else in this thread, I will acknowledge that the Pittsburgh Penguins look good. They have all of that talent and they have a little more depth than the average team. With that said, they beat the second worst team in the league in the second half of the season. Ottawa had a win percentage of .390 from game number 42 to the end. Without their Captain they looked bad, and with him on the ice at 20% or less he was no more than a symbol for the team. The Pens just beat up on the runt of the playoff litter.

When it comes to the Pens, I still think that they are too inexperienced to win it all. They had an easy opponent that they steamrolled, yes, but what happens when they face a rugged team willing to out-battle them in the corners like Philidelphia, who now looks poised to sink the Capitals? We'll see.

Sharks goaltender Nabokov is Vezina Trophy finalist
Mercury News staff and wires
Article Launched: 04/21/2008 12:33:20 PM PDT

NEW YORK - The Sharks' Evgeni Nabokov, Martin Brodeur of New Jersey and Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers are the finalists for
the Vezina Trophy, given to the NHL's top goaltender.

Brodeur won the trophy for the third time last year. It is the eighth time he is a finalist.

Nabokov and Lundqvist and have never won the award. Lundqvist is a finalist for the third consecutive season. He was third in 2006 and 2007.

Nabokov is a first-time finalist. He finished fourth in the voting in 2001-02. Nabokov led the NHL in victories with 46, tied for third in goals-
against average (2.14) and shutouts (six).

General managers from all 30 teams submitted ballots for the award at the end of the regular season.

The winner will be announced at the league's awards show on June 12 in Toronto.

If there's a goal that everyone remembers it was back in ole' 72
We all squeezed the stick and we all pulled the trigger
And all I remember was sitting beside you
You said you didn't give a fuck about hockey
And I never saw someone say that before
You held my hand and we walked home the long way
You were loosening my grip on Bobby Orr
We hung out together every single moment
Cause that's what we thought married people do
Complete with the grip of artificial chaos
And believing in the country of me and you
Crisis of faith and crisis in the Kremlin
And yea we'd heard all of that before
It's wintertime, the house is solitude with options
And loosening the grip on a fake cold war

Not to throw in the towel too soon, but it looks like the Sharks are kinda fucked.

More than one article in the paper today referred to bad ice at the arena, and "We can't blame the ice" etc. etc.

Um... logic says both teams were skating on the ice, no?

Damn, Julie. Damn. Damn.

Penguins are doing great, though.

kind of a let down to see the pens loose their first game of the playoffs. malkin was totally flustered for the first time and his penalty shot attempt was awful.

thats okay though. its gearing up for an all pennsylvania eastern championship!

jackrock

Halkin better not start tomorrow. He's a good goalie, but has very little playoff experience. Price needs his head on straight, can't blame him though, that's a lot of pressure to put on a young rookie.

On another note, Umberger just may be the most annoying hockey player in existence.

Anyone know what the record is for most consecutive playoff wins?

yeah, umberger is a local guy so its bittersweet to see him do so well against the penguins....

as far as streaks go....

the canadians went 8-0 a couple times back in the days when thats all it took to win the cup. the oilers went 16-2 as the best record in the modern era.

but the pens won 11 straight to win the cup in 92 (breaking chicago's streak of 11 games) which stands as the most consecutive victories

i like how you just discredit a team because you have some sort of grudge or something. never mind that they were one of the best team defensive teams in the league, their goaltending the last 2 months was only matched by that of the rangers, their power play and penalty killing have both been phenomenal in the post season, oh yeah, and they have a couple of the leagues biggest offensive threats.

if a team that finishes 2nd in the conference even while losing so many games to injury around the board is a walkover, then i want to know what kind of hockey you've been watching all season

that game last night was so intense. i don't think i have ever been inside someplace that loud before.

the only real crum part about the game was the fact that the ref's swallowed their whistles the whole third period but then decided to call a real weak one with 4 minutes left. i mean, if you're not going to call stuff then fine, but don't go and call something like that at the end of the game after you passed up on plenty of other calls on both sides.
