I did submitted my federal taxes in January or so and got the refund. I took a pass at the state taxes and it
looked like I was going to owe, so I held off.

Shouldn't have. Now that they're done, I see I get a refund after all. :)

My federal was $3 (lol) and my state was $16 (lol). Since I filed with TaxACT and it costs $14, I got about $2 out of the deal.

Since this year I'll be making significantly more, I need to either start contributing to charity or my IRA or I will end up owing

Last year I forgot that I could deduct interest paid on student loans.

Oops.

I paid a couple years of back taxes after I got this job. It was painful and a big relief at the same time.

Congrats, Eric. (y)

I can't wait to see the outcome from this job being that I live in NY and work in NJ and get double taxed.

I haven't worked there long enough to file for a full year of taxes. I sure do miss tax free money sometimes.

we've got our other tax thing planned, whenever they send us that thing. we're putting in a screen/storm door. i go stir crazy when i don't have the door open when i'm home.

this post brought to you by the word "thing".

Buy a house, have a kid.

Altogether, I got back about 9 grand.

Sadly, a good majority of it went to paying my Property taxes.

my taxes are done. I used my refund to make a huge credit card payment and that felt good.

I hope I get the stimulus check that uncle sam is suppose to send. I SHOULD qualify. but I'll beleive it when I see it, if you know what I mean.

In theory, mine should drop in my checking account by May 14 or 16. Maybe as early as May 3 or 4. (y)

I'm going to be able to pay off one credit card, so that's one account I think I'll just close unless they're willing to renegotiate the interest rate.

I'm really excited. for the last few years, I was bending over for Uncle Sam and tax season usualy meant paying up to a Grand to Federal and State taxes, but this year I'm getting $900 from Federal, $400 from California and $100 from New York, plus the economic stimulus which will probably be $300...

not too shabby

Being deployed for 1/4 of last year really helped me...since the money was tax free it lowered me into a lower bracket and I got a better refund sweet

I'm just cooking my books and I'm going for IRS information meetings a couple of times this month
so I'll find out more ingredients to spice it with and hopefully I'm done when the reports have to be done by May 5th.

The last two years I had so much to deduct I don't need to pay taxes this year.

I'm in a conundrum as we speak. I haven't filed for probably 9 years. And by all rights everything I've earned is off paper. My wife: She's doing quite well for herself but me, I'm a broke dick. I can officially say that I'm sponging off my wife

However, bf I left the states I owed like $800 and that was the straw that broke the camels back. Now I've heard of stories that $800 in a few short years turns into a money knot. I received an email from my Mums that next year my grandfathers trust fund matures and I should be looking at nothing special around $40k but by the same token my Grandfather worked his ass off for this $.

Any advise is appreciated. I asked my folks about this earlier today and haven't heard anything. If it was up to me, the $ should be my Mum's bc it was her dad's savings. If I could finagle something along those lines then I'd be happy. Basically, anyway that I can either keep the money or give it away to whatever I see fit and not be hit with Uncle Scams cut is fine with me.

Quote me on that: I'd rather give $40K away than have Uncle Scam dig his paws in my grandfathers $ and claim it as his

I'd say your grandfather divvied it up as he wished, and you should respect that. Be thankful for the gift it is, pay the taxes on it, and write
to the IRS and ask what you owe. It frees you in spiritual and practical ways.

Seriously. I did this myself. It's totally worth it. (y)

My Grandfather worked graveyard shift at a chemical factory like a hebrew slave. The Gov't never helped him: as a matter of fact they got their got as he was chipping away.

And I honestly can't say that I'd feel more spiritually cleansed if the IRS take their cut. That's why I'm saying that I'd rather give it to my Mom. In my eyes it's her $ anyway.

Practically, maybe, but no way in hell would I feel spiritually cleansed knowing that my grandfather worked his ass off for that $ and even after paying taxes on it then now I have to pay taxes for $ he earned.

Another form of IRS Assrape is the way I see it
