Mine's pretty schizo.
Rio Bravo
101 Dalmatians (Animated)
Les Miserables (1934? French version)
Roseanne: Season 2: Disc 1
....I'm finally giving Roseanne a shot, and, from what I gather, season two is where things got "good."
If nothing else, I have the consolation of watching John Goodman, our criminally underrated national treasure.
What've you got?

My god you are a dichotomy!...I actually really kinda like the Liam Neeson version of "Les Mis"...(y)

I've never seen a film version, but I really like the book. (Except for the 150 pages or so where the story sorta stops and we do war for a while.)

That was kinda fun...I rarely watch "horror" flicks...I could never do caving...claustrophobia!
I am painting a room but the Netflix on my shelf are......
Michael Clayton (I have already seen it but my wife wants to check it out)
Atonement
Wristcutters:A Love Story

I rented Wristcutters. It was totally clean but the fucking thing would just seize up in my player. Every now and then I get a disc that does that.
You better not jinx it or I will slit my.............oh, nevermind.
Hey, hpdrifter....how can you be watching Juno? Doesn't it release on DVD this coming Tuesday?

I rented Contempt and Small Change from the library like a week ago.
I have yet to find the time to watch either one, but hopefully I will this weekend.
abcdefz
04-11-2008, 02:21 PM
I remeber thinking Small Change was pretty good.
The only Godard I've seen that I really liked was My Life to Live.

04-11-2008, 02:26 PM
I like most of his 60s narrative films. I actually watched Contempt in a class once, but I hardly remember it.
He got very political and "out-there" for awhile after that, I suppose.
I haven't seen a whole lot of his more recent (last 25 years, haha) stuff, but I hear it's a return to form somewhat, at least as far as telling stories.
abcdefz
04-11-2008, 02:36 PM
Well, let me know if Contempt is any good. I've been tempted to rent it more than once, but then fall into a mild despair because I don't
seem to "get" him, so I wind up renting Roseanne instead.

Roseanne is pretty great, if I recall correctly. I haven't seen it since I was a lad though.

Yeah, I was surprised to get it, I put it at the top of the queue before it came out and I figured it would just come when it came. I guess I got lucky.
And I haven't seen it, so I deserve it more. :p
I got Roadside Prophets somewhere in my garage. Moving while under the influence of netflix is bad news. I have to go find that DVD and watch it.

That's the only Scorsese movie I kinda hate. :(
Well, I watched disc one of season two of Roseanne. It actually had a few laughs (when the disc wasn't seizing up), but Roseanne just
kinda annoys me, so I think I'm done. Or else get disc two somewhere down the road. Small doses would seem to be best.

Battlestar Galactica, Season 3, Disc 4 -- trying to catch up so I can watch the new ones I'm DVRing.
The Fugitive, Season 1, Disc 3 -- the original TV show, I had never seen it, and I'm really enjoying it, despite it being a pretty old fashioned drama. There are loads of future famous actors in small parts and William Conrad does the voiceovers. It's going to be painful for me to wait until the other seasons are released on DVD!!!
I pretty much only get TV shows on Netflix because the movies just sit and sit and sit before I finally watch them. I have Once and some French movie waiting for me to get inspired.
i watched eagle vs. shark tonight...i dunno. i live in a very hipster-populated part of boston, and they're just suffocating sometimes so i've had this sort of anti-hipster bias going on for the past few months and this just seems like the kind of movie that hipsters would jerk each other off over and that fact alone made me not like it at all. that doesn't seem fair but it just bugged me
i basically rented it because what's his name from flight of the conchords was in it and i guess it had its moments but overall i'd give it an "ehhhhhh"

Library “There Will Be Blood” can't believe it was available...

The Navigator (Keaton)
Lake of Fire
Bronco Billy
[The Last Seduction - actually, I watched this last night and am returning it today]
Another esoteric lineup.
Lake of Fire is Tony Kaye's (American X) abortion documentary. Includes footage of an abortion, which I'm pretty leery of.

The attack sequence on the road was AMAZING the first time in the theater. The attention to detail was incredible.
The "making of" doc on that one is pretty sweet.
I have Lars and the Real Girl, The Devil and Daniel Johnston & Atonement.
I will either watch Ryan Gosling as Lars or the documentary about Daniel Johnston.

My Netflix queue kinda sucks right now because they didn't receive the two movies I returned yesterday. And since I already finished the DVD
I got in the mail yesterday, that means all I have for the weekend from them is The Savages, which is supposed to show up today.
I live in the same city as my distribution center, so it's a little dubious when it takes more than a day to go from here to there. (n)

It's lousy, especially as it's a sequel to "The Hustler" with Jackie Gleason as Minnesota Fat's....(y)

04-27-2008, 11:31 AM
Naahhhh...It WAS lousy,I may have been 14,but it was still lousy...years later when I saw "The Hustler" it only made it worse, none of the grit or coolness of the first...furthermore,please don't call me dude...(n)
Yeah....it definitely was lousy.
i watched bad boys 2 tonight (drunkenly)
it's like, for the first half of the movie we were all like "this is the coolest movie ever"
and then shit got real and it made the first half of the movie look like ass
that part where the robot exploded, and then the dudes popped out from the ground and shot a rocket launcher into the mansion and then martin lawrence and will smith jumped out of the coffins with machine guns? damn.
and the humvee chase in which half of cuba was destoyed? lol

just because me and my friends jerked each other off over this movie, doesn't make us hipsters! it makes us perverts.
blah, I love that movie. I saw it in the theater on a whim without any bias though.

i've never met a hipster that admitted to being a hipster. even the most obvious ones.
they always seem to think there is someone else out there that is even more of a
hipster than them, and that it's that person everyone is laughing at....nope. sorry, buddy. its you.

Dorothy Wood
05-04-2008, 05:24 PM
why do people care so much about whether or not people are hipsters? is it because they're elitists? are people personally offended by them? if so, why?
I think that hipster hate is annoying. Mainly because I look like a hipster and I associate with hipsters. and I have been subjected to insults whilst riding my bike and wearing my neon green earmuffs from 6th grade. (out of irony, yes, but mainly practicality...I hate the sound of wind). I know the young ones try awfully hard though, and it is kind of gross. and I went to a party on saturday night that had so many mustaches! I'm pretty sure every other dude had a mustache. I like them, but not everyone can have one, that's just silly.
anyway, I don't even dress cool enough consistently enough to be considered a real hipster. but I do admit I like their aesthetic and some of those kids are really fun and nice.
ah, and I'd like to mention that I don't think Eagle vs. Shark was a hipster movie. I mean, the characters were dorky, I don't think they were supposed to be cool or anything. They didn't talk about music. The setting was attractive to hipsters perhaps because it was ugly and sort of 80's seeming, therefore ironic. I mean, there are people with mullets who don't know that it's ironic, they're just plain dorky.
meh.
DipDipDive
05-04-2008, 08:12 PM
why do people care so much about whether or not people are hipsters?
No one cares except the hipsters themselves, which is why people who aren't hipsters find them annoying. That, and the fact that in their attempts to be avant garde, all hipsters manage to do is make themselves head to toe replicants of every other hipster out there. So lame.
LOL and I rented a bunch of shit this weekend and have only gotten halfway through it. We still have Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which he has never seen) and Casablanca (which neither of us have seen) to watch before they're due back tomorrow.

okay. I get it, I just think the mythology has out-paced the reality. or maybe I've just been around those kind of people for so long that it doesn't bother me. the assholes ones are just boring dorks in cool clothes.
like this guy. this guy is a dick. everyone's always on his balls because he's a music critic, but he's stuck up, boring and a dork. once my ex and I were having brunch and we got stuck sitting next to him and some chick and I'd met him several times before, and the ex even used to sort of hang out with him...and he pretended he didn't know either of us. was rude to us even.
