my neighbors have it and gave my former roommate the password, but like, she doesn't live there anymore and I feel weird about using it. but not so bad if they wouldn't be able to tell if I was using it because I hate them for stomping around above my bedroom at all hours making smoothies.

yeah, so what?

I think a little pop up will appear saying "yourcomputername is connected to the network" or something to that effect. Name your computer "Stop making smoothies so damn late."

Or name it after another neighbor. Like, if your neighbor's name is Dan, name it "Dan's Computer" and pass the buck.

nah nothing pops up. They would have to log in to the router to see that and know what they were looking for.

I'm in! I figured out the password thingy. I feel like I'm gonna get in trouble though. :(

okay, so I've been using the wifi for like 5 months now with no problems. but then last night, this comcast page came up in my browser and asked me to download some shit and create a username and email address. :(

is that a virus?! or did they find me out?

Quit being a weenie...it's their fault for not locking down their shit better

Tapping into an unsecured network is good and bad. Good because you get internet, bad because you're now associated with that network and if something really illegal goes down on that network, they can find you.

Personally, I think tapping into another person's wifi connection is asking for trouble.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????

well, if they find me, they'll find I have nothing illegal on my computer. and I can just say, "oh yeah, my old roommate gave me the password because she used it and then I just kept using it because it connected me automatically and I don't know how I even logged onto it in the first place and I don't remember the password". all of that is true.

I'm not saying you're going to get tagged for illegal shit. It would just be a real pain in the ass if your neighbor was downloading naughty illegal shit with donkeys and then they have to take your computer away for a few days as evidence or whatever.

Who ever is the admistrator of the network is responsible for what is going down - you don't pay so that is not your problem. I don't think they'll associate you with it, each connected device has a separate network address and they can easily see which computer has been downloading the donkey porn.

Worse thing you are doing is stealing. Which is still a crime. But every1 does it - I try and SSH in tho and change settings like blocking facebook or google.

just ignore the comcast thing. nothing good comes from listening to their directives
