You couldn't do this previously with a desktop or is it just the convenience of doing it from bed now?

i was the same way when i first got my laptop. the benefit of laying in bed instead of sitting at the desk is great.
it should wear off quickly though if you have to get up early. after a few days i was just too tired to do it anymore so i learned to cut myself off better.

i have a laptop and rarely use it on any sort of device resembling a table.
i am pretty much always in bed with it. i try sitting up but inevitably i end up lounging or sprawled half across the bed or what not. i actually have a picture of this somewhere. i will find it. the angle of my neck and back is un-natural in these positions. i am going to be crippled when i am older, ugh.
i'm house-sitting atm and they have a desktop. i feel like i'm back at home living with my parents. theres a wee desk covered in my notes and bottles of juice (or alcohol) and snacks and stuff. it hurts like a bitch sitting on their chair, though. when i am a proper grown up i am going to invest in a pimping desk chair. oh yes. then i will get a desk, keep my laptop on that and not have to brush crumbs out of bed whenever i go to sleep at night. a bed should be for SLEEPING, not your leisure time.

a bed should always be for leisure time, and plenty of it
