Alive kicks ass - I remember being fascinated with it musically when it first came out - I really like that stuttery drum break, it creates a really good syncopated feel.

I remember being worried that it was their swan-song when it came out 'though - coming out at the same time as the anthology, not appearing on any other album, lyrically kind of summing up the Beastie message - and Mike looked a bit odd in the video (is it just me?)- in fact someone here poted that Alive was one of their least favourite b-boys videos and I'm inclined to agree.

But I still played the track to death at the time - if the Beasties were going to retire at least they were ending with a logical full-stop (US translation = period). I just thought that it had a very unique feel to it yet somehow ticked all the right boxes to make it great hip hop too. I tend to play it at about +2 on my Technics as it just highlights the restrained energy of the track. It's so simple yet irresistable. I thought that if this is what we can expect from them in the future then I'm happy.

If you dig 'Alive' check out 'Alive at Yauchs house' for a really good, intense, rock-like version.(y)

I remember crying like a 3 year old that lost his "blanky" after hearing that song. Adrock rapping about taxxes were the day the BBoys Died w/o an eulogy for me.

But hey, they put out enough music for me before that I'll be a fan to the end. But don't expect me to dogpile onto any crap they put out.

very nice version of a tune that has grown on me after time - wasnt a massive fan at first. I dont know if its because it was realeased on the "sounds of science" comp. I am always suspicious of "new" tracks on greatest hits. It can give some acts the licence to put anything out.
But alive is a great vocal, i have heard loads of good versions recently.

I like the rhymes, the sentiment, the hook (borrowed I know) and the multicoloured furry suits.

Plus its nicely political without being so political it annoys people. Not that it would annoy me.

the last GREAT beastie (rap) track.

I think Ch-ch-ch-check it out is great - again unique sounding, loads of personaility, great to b-boy to, cool video, great beat. What more can I say other than maybe ..............one finger in the air like thiiiiiiiiis!

Open letter to NY city was the most eloquent, intelligent, magnanimous, heartfelt response from the Hip Hop community that I heard in response to 9/11.

Triple trouble's a great party tune - old-skool derivative sure but catchy as hell - brings the old skool to the new audience.

Right right now, Crawlspace, 3 the hard way.

Ummmm, Alive is a great track but I get a little bored of folk hating on TT5B.

If you don't like it then hey.......... there's some good tracks on there.

I believe that the point of that lyric was about not wanting to support the arms race...but anyway.

Car Thief is becoming a Ghost

That's an eerie but accurate description of the song nowadays...
