So.. Remember that sappy thread I wrote about being depressed and wanting to see a therapist? Well, I went. And now she won't see me anymore.

I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from the secretary or whomever stating that due to like, "conflict of interest" or whatever, Dr. so-and-so feels it wise I not see her and instead see Dr. so-and-so. I'm both hurt and confused by this.

My "problems" are by no means complicated, or rather, nothing seriously FUCKED UP. I'm just depressed, am an extremely envious person, blablabla. I've been wracking my brain as to why this woman refuses to see me. Like- how the fuck does someone get rejected by a THERAPIST? I thought they were supposed to be unbiased and such.

Whatever. I'm just gonna resort to chain smoking and drinking whiskey from now on. Christ.

perhaps it's not that she refuses to see you, it might just be that she thinks you need a different sort of doctor. maybe she feels that your issues are not something she is experienced enough to handle.
my friend had a similar situation, and the therapist turned her away because my friend needed a therapist who knew how to deal with her very specific issues.
please please dont feel like this is your fault, i hardly think it's what the therapist meant to do. it's probably that it would be better for YOU to see someone different.

Yes toy, listen to this guy. He's got a whopping 18 years of experience.

Or maybe you should listen to monkey. It's probably just that she knows someone better for you.

doesn't "conflict of interest" mean you know her in some way, or are connected to her in some way?

That's what I thought too. But I've asked my mom, sister, etc., and nobody knows or had known her on a personal level.

idk!

What others said. Don't give up. When one doctor refuses to help you, look elsewhere. Don't feel bad.

were any of your problems connected to specific people that you mentioned by name? maybe she's also treating one of them

i don't know if that's a conflict of interest that therapists are forbidden to have but in lawyer talk, that's more or less what it means

I took a class about "ethics" and rules for therapists and their patients, it might be "transference" or something? I can't remember the exact term...
