Hey guys I’m at my wit’s end here hopefully one you can help me out. I’m pretty sure what I’m imagining is actually possible. In Windows XP how do you move the default location for user profiles from C:\documents and settings\username to another location? And how do you set it so new user profiles are created in the same location? Thanks

Oh yeah I should mention why I wanna do this. They system I'm working on has two partitions a C: and D: the C: drive is almost full and the D: drive has tons of space. Sadly I'm not authorized to use programs like partition magic etiher...
Click the Start button, then right-click My Documents.
Choose Properties, then click Move... and select the drive you want it on.
(Then click Make New Folder and write My Documents.) I'm pretty sure you can skip that.
It will ask if you want to move your documents, OK on that since that's what you want.
Done! And still the same way to get to the folder. Just click My Documents anywhere.

No I don't want to just move the "my documents" folder I want to move the entire user profile and make it so when new users log on their profiles are created in the D: drive instead of the C:

??? (http://joshmouch.wordpress.com/2007/04/07/change-user-profile-folder-location-in-vista/)
Does this help? (http://www.petri.co.il/copy_user_profiles_in_windows_xp.htm) About halfway through it shows you that you can copy the profile to a network share but just changing the default location to a folder of choice on D: should cut the mustard. I'm tempted to try this myself actually.

wouldnt you have to install windows on the other partition to do that?
when my main partition runs out of space, i just start tossing the extra files into generic folders on the other drive. stuff like movies/videos and other stuff that doesnt have much tied to it
