Getting very nervous now. Am quietly confident we will get a result in the nou camp but you never know. I have been in great mood since riise's own goal last night.

I'm apprehensive too, but I do agree that we can do it. No Messi, an underperforming Henry and a dropped Ronaldinho; this is the weakest Barcelona team for a while and we have a good chance of putting a few away goals past them.
Either way I'm hoping for a good match, I've always liked Barcelona. If we don't win it we will school them in Trafford so I'm not too worried about losing by one goal or so.

Every single time I say we're going to definitely win (which I don't say more than 3 or 4 times a season because this club always do things the hard way) we always fucking lose.
Therefore, even though I have a good feeling about tonight, I'm going to predict a 4-0 loss for us, in the hope that we'll win.

it was shit. not that bothered about the penalty miss but would have been nice to get an early lead. we couldnt string 3 passes together and barca werent ruthless enough.
Its anyone's still. Am a bit worried they are gonna defend in numbers and try and hit us on the break. We have been beaten before when we had a goalless draw in the away leg. Remember Porto and monaco.

If that was (as the papers were touting it) the show down to see who was the best player in the world, Messi or Ronaldo then Messi got it.
Ronnie wasn't at the races at all. Rooney was out of position and out of sorts. Defensively they held up well though.

It pissed me off a few weeks back when Ferguson said that Ronaldo needs protection - hang on, doesn't football need protection from Ronaldo- its his cheating and diving thats fucking up the game. Plus its Drogba as well that stupid son of a bitch was going down in the centre circle when the Chelsea Globetrotters were 1-0 down. While I'm at it whats with all this fucking 4-5-1 and swamping the midfielf - Chelsea had Lampard, Ballack and the other one, Essien or Makele i forget which and they spent the entire match tripping on each others fucking toes. These fucking teams too shit scared to actually try and win a game so they pretend to be Italians. I hope Barcelona'll win it to shut up the scousers, the pikeys and the chelsea tourists. Two of em are owned by yanks anyway, whats it fucking come to?

best team in world - didnt concede a goal or get in much trouble kept clean sheet, great chance of going thru to final. barca had all the posession but a lot of was in "safe" areas and we were happy to let them have it there. We did great at winning ball back but kept giving it them back too soon.
best player in world - what dont kill you will only make you stronger. should have had another penalty.
Defence played really well, especially Evra
I think the midfield and attack were given a specific job to do and didnt do it too badly but passing was a bit off. 0-0 not greatest result but it will be a totally different team and performance.
And as for messi being better player - he only played for an hour and didnt too much - one decent piece of skill. that doesnt justify anything.
Penalty, first minute, 100,000 fans, euro semi final. Anybody would have been brickin it there. I wont hold it against him if we dont get thru.
Everybody was under par from both sides.

I've always maintained that Cristiano doesn't have enough experience at the top level to take the pressure in these games. Fergie should have realised this, not put him right up front on his own, out of his usual position and burdened with extra pressure to attack. Switch Rooney and Ronaldo (including for the penalty) and you would have seen a much calmer, more fluid game with a possible win for us.
Saying that, Brown did very well in the middle and Hargreaves continued to show he's the most versatile player we have. His attacking effort the other weekend was amazing, and a big surprise for me.

i dont get putting ronaldo up top by himself.
than making tevez and rooney play almost as wide mids and almost backs at times.
well i mean i do, he wasnt trying to loose, but at the same time, your supposed to be the best team in the world come on now...
messi only playing for 60 mins isnt shocking. hes just coming back from injury. still not match fit. another week should do him good.
henry should have played from the beginning. and bojan should have gotten more time. barca definatly did not do enough with their possession. but come on, just because your on the road you totally pack it in and just sit back for 90 mins?? i dont know much...

i see your points but your wrong:p
its a fair enough gamble to put the scorer of 38 goals this season up front and rooney on the wing. wayne's played there a bit and works hard. we managed to contain them and put is in a strong position at OT. It wasnt totally packing in. If we had passed the ball better we could have created a few more chances, i think that was the strategy it just didnt work out that way.

I'm having very vivid memories of drawing against The Hammers on the last day of the season in 1994-95.
Very. Vivid. Memories.
We're supposed to be one of the best attacking sides in the world (and on our day, I'd say we are) but we've gone out to draw at best in our last 2 fixtures, and we haven't put in a good performance since we beat Liverpool! :(
I can easily see us failing to pick up 3 points at West Ham and losing to Barca on away goals. Fucking fuck! What the fuck is Ferguson playing at?

West Ham? Lets face it, we are due a win against them, they have won the last 4 against us. That was a bad , bad day in 95 but i'm fully behind the lightning stiking theory on that one. Plus its our last home game. I think we will be too strong for them. Seriously, can we have a smiley for fingers crossed?
Fergie? He wants to win the champions league more. I dont think its a good way to treat it. He's better off goin for it and try and keep up the morale and belief a la 1999. Its gonna be an arse twitcher on Tuesday.

I'm feeling uneasy about all this. A week ago I thought the title was in the bag and we were on the way to a European final. I was so screwing when I watched MOTD last night, typical Chelsea bullshit. Dodgy penalty decisions, poor linesman work, Drogba on the floor every 10 seconds then spitting the dummy when a decision doesn't go his way.
I was watching with a few mates and this one girl went "Why are all the Chelsea players fighting each other, they're on the same team AND they're winning?!" to which my reply was "Because they're all selfish cunts who love nothing but money". I think that little exchange sums up the club pretty well, and outlines how much English football NEEDS the proud, courageous reds to win the league.
If you are a Chelsea fan then feel ashamed, for you and your team are top cunts.

On Man U side, the entire team played fucking well.
When Tevez plays it seems his possessed. He runs all the time and is always fighting for the ball. Park did a great job defending and attacking. Scholes scored a magnificent goal. Brown and Ferdinand back there are impassable. And Ronaldo.... Well.... Ronaldo doesnt need any comments. He's always great.

why exactly does Dirk Kuyt play in a top Premiership team? I've seen centre-backs with better technique than him. jesus, he's useless as a striker and even worse as a winger. not to mention he's bordering on repulsively ugly. Babel should've been on from the start.

I am in danger of sounding like me dad here but this thread is called on "come on united" so its a thread encouraging Manchester United thru the end of this season to some silverware (AGAIN, I NEED A FINGERS CROSSED SMILEY) . It can also be used to talk about football in general and people trade opinions etc. This is good.
Now I am not averse to a bit of healthy rivalry and amusing banter even if its against man u but this is just piss poor. More originality and maturity required.

haha, i said fag so you all jumped on me. Both Ronaldos pay for sex, which is funny. Either way, no, I wouldn't take it from the lumberjack Rooney, he's the best English player, I'll give him that. Too bad he's still mediocre compared to the solid foreign influence in the EPL. Man Utd's a great team, I just hate supporting teams that are full of douchebags and the manager is a bitch. "Oh wow, Sir Alex is so great, he knows that team so well" no shit, he's been there half his life. ANY manager in one place for that long will have a solid team, even Glenn bumfuck Roeder. I hate saying who I support, because no matter what I'll get some shit for it, Newcastle and Juventus. So go ahead and throw me some jabs about Newcastle not winning a trophy in a lifetime and Juventus getting caught in a cheating scandal. Nothing I havent heard before.
Really, Man Utd aint shabby, its just Rooney is losing his spark (wonderkid away) and Ronaldo and Nani are both Portuguese bitches. They both dive and look like they're about to cry when they dont get the right call. Also Anderson is shit too, all he does is grab shirts and then acts like he didnt when he gets called. If Arsenal would drop some money on ANYONE (nasri?) they'll do great, but right now they need more depth. And champions league is just a fail. I totally want to see english teams in the final....

If you like black and white kits then Notts county should be your team of choice - thats where Juventus got their strip from. Fact!

dunno what that means, but incognito. Maybe you can focus on the team I truly support. Juve. Yeah, they've done pretty well I've heard :p
Newcastle is my underdog team. I hate supporting a team that is guaranteed to win. (now someone make a joke about how I MUST love supporting them cuz they never win. It's not like I support Derby or something)
Also, EPL is great, I'm not going to lie. But Italy and Spain play the best football. They play the beautiful game. England stars look down when they run and just bounce of players. Its a few steps away from American football. Skill is possessed in Italy and Spain. Though since for some reason English teams have all the money, they buy those talents from the other countries. Which is why their own home bred players are a little ... well... shitty compared to the rest. WC and Euro's confirm this. Though I do agree EPL is rockin it as far as best teams. They're are the teams that arent really contenders for the title (Newcastle, Everton, Spurs, Man City, etc.) that are still teams with great players. In all other leagues, they have 2-3 top teams, while England has many.

spain's top 7 teams are all good. and even the couple under that arent too bad. same thing with italy to a slightly lesser extent.
the BPL's top teams are just so ridiculously stacked that its not even fair. and i dont see arsenal challenging next year loosing these players. and liverpool is always shit in the league. so that realistically leaves 2 teams playing for the title. thats pretty gay. plus the top 4 is ALWAYS the same.
spains is always changing. italy has a really good race going for the 4 spot between 3 teams.

whats the top 7 teams of Spain? ( I don't get to see them play often, so all I am familiar with are Barca and Madrid. Seville Villareal and Atletico are the only other three i really know much about.)
And Arsenal I believe will do well next year, they were doing well this year until lately, then they fell apart unfortunately. But they are going to actually BUY this summer. Ben Arfa or Nasri will be a gunner next year me thinks.

The premier league is dominated by a couple of teams but - the fact that the rest of the league is so strong means that anybody can beat anybody on their day which is why its always so close. Granted, its the same teams at the top but the overall standard is higher than spain or italy.

Man United have been solid this year. The two best centre backs in Europe - possibly the world, and Wes Brown is absolutely no nonsense. You've got the youth of Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez - the latter two play like absolute lions and are unbelievably selfless in their play. They learn from the likes of Scholes and Giggs who have shown their experiance and worth in the last 3 weeks yet alone their entire careers.

I can make that claim as you do not need a defensive, holding midfield player in every type of game, hence you don't need him to start. I have watched the man play live several times. I'm a fan of Owen Hargreaves, I think he is underrated - the guy filled in at right back and did a superb job in 2 of the most important games of this season (Barca home and away). When he plays in midfield, he bosses it. He's hardly the biggest looking bloke, yet he cleanly knocks anyone off the ball with apparent ease. He does the dirty-work, which to the untrained football eye, goes unnoticed. You are a prime example.
You've contradicted yourself by saying rio is up there but not even close to being top. Which one is it? Tell me a more consistent centre back this season in their respective league and in European competition?
Call me a blind Man United fan all you want - I don't give a toss. I'll happily share my opinion that Nani is a waste of time. He gives the ball away cheaply and his attitude seems to need a lot of work. Ronaldo's attitude can get on my nerves too... Probably because I admire the likes of Giggs so much and have grown up doing so - honest players who are real pro's. Having said that, the majority of times Ronaldo genuinely gets fouled. I think Louis Saha has got to be replaced.
If i was a blind Man U fan, I'd refuse to see or contemplate problems with any players. So fuck off.

Speaking of fans standing during games... I adore the way united fans just downright refuse to sit down, despite officials complaints/threats made by other teams etc. I've been to a few away games this year - not a single away United fan sitting down or not singing.
The version of Ryan Giggs Running Down the Wing was one of the best things I've seen and heard this season United-affiliated. It was deafening even on the telly!

The fact that he doesn't play every game means he is not that important of a player. Don't try and play me son, I know the game like the back of my hand. Micheal Essien does what Owen does, he plays right back when needed, yet PLAYS EVERY GAME HE IS AVAILABLE. You want to know why? Because he is that good. The same with Gattuso, or Makalele in his prime, or Veira in his prime, and soon to be Flamini. So you are wrong there. Hes good, but get your tongue out of his ass there my boy.
In regards to rio. I said he is up there, because in terms of center backs in the world, there literally are THOUSANDS. When I said the top, I mean, the top 1,2 guys in the world. He is no where near those two spots. 10 at best, maybe. Maybe I might say that, but that is not near the top. But it is up there. Can you understand that?
And the fact that you don't think Nani is worth anything shows you are full of hot air like a balloon. Nani is Cristiano Ronaldo 4 or 5 years ago when he first game to Man U. He is raw. Cristiano of 4 or 5 years ago, is no where close to what he is today. His decision making was poor, his service was poor, and he gave the ball away/wasted the ball a lot. Give Nani some time and he will be very good.

Scholes, Giggs and Tevez... Just a few examples of players whose importance to United this year can't be understated. Have they started every game? No. Essien plays every game because he is one of Chelseas most influential players. United, as has been proved this season, have greater strength in depth. Essien has only played right back because he is stronger than what Chelsea have had available. This is not the case with United. I was simply pointing out that when Brown has been injured, Hargreaves has done a very good job there. Fair enough, you don't rate him. I'm a United fan, I've watched every game this season - into double figures live - and I do rate him. It's that simple. On another note, hargreaves has been playing with tendinitis all season, so it's hardly surprising he'snot thrown into every game. In any case, he was brought was specific types of matches, usually tough away games where United have required a holding midfielder. Required being the key word.
In regards to rio. I said he is up there, because in terms of center backs in the world, there literally are THOUSANDS. When I said the top, I mean, the top 1,2 guys in the world. So Ferdinand is in the top 1000. You're an idiot! I mean what more is there to say?! It's an interesting attempt to cover up a complete contradiction on your part. Or maybe i just don't understand. Ferdinand and Vidic are the best central defensive partnership in the league. Not many will disagree. The premiership is generally regarded as one of the toughest and best leagues in the world. Need I say more?
And the fact that you don't think Nani is worth anything shows you are full of hot air like a balloon. Nani is Cristiano Ronaldo 4 or 5 years ago when he first game to Man U. He is raw. Cristiano wasn't that far away when he first came and was far more consistent. It has taken a few years of excellent development to get him where he is now. It's an obvious comparison to make. My simple assessment is I liked Ronaldo even when he first came. I could see/hope for the potential to be achieved. I don't see the same with Nani, largely because United don't really need him, which in all fairness has probably made me slightly against him from the off really. And thank you, Saha is a waste of time.
To be honest, I'm just a passionate United fan. Your views are fine, I mean fair enough. I kinda like this about football. You can love your own club but people are still essentially fans of the game itself, so they've every right to have their opinions. I've been overly aggressive and dismissive, but overall I just don't agree. Particulary about the final... GO UNITED!

Yeah they were 8th last season. I'm not that bothered. Used to watch Reading when they weren't too good funnily enough (in the old Division 2) - strangely, they had few superior players back then too! In any case I moved from Manchester when I was 5. The fact I was from there was least important to me at that age than the fact we had Eric Cantona.
Anyway yeah look, what can I say? I like Owen Hargreaves. I like most the team for that matter. 1999 was just magic for me, but this is the strongest side since then. Non-United fans will find anything negative to say about our players, like with any club. Even my friend whose a Red isn't a Hargreaves fan. I've both watched and played football for years and I appeciate what that specific player does, because it's not a fashionable role or a particulary glorious one. What is the problem with me thinking that?
I just get the impression from you and your earlier statements that you are clueless. But I probably would, defending the team I support and all. I liked your comparison with the Yanks, it made me chuckle. Ooh when is Beckham next on by the way? I'll set the recorder.

i know my shit, recent things slip past cuz i cant watch all games, but in the handful of games i've seen of players is where i base most my assumption. Hargreaves isn't bad by any means, but didnt united pay 20m? thats silly money. As far as I can tell they needed another English player and a midfielder. My views on him come from WC06 and CL matchs I've seen. Besides his amazing free kick I've never thought he was a great. Also I argue with a lot of people over here about european football, that being the case, they cling on to classic teams that they know nothing about btu pick cuz it was the first name they ever heard. Man Utd, Arsenal, and Real Madrid all are usually the favorites over here. Pisses me off. I can name everyone in the english league (and championship usually) when they can name two. So I naturally hate teams everyone else loves. I am a fan of Del Piero, which is where my first discovery of Juve came from. Also I like Martins and while playing one of the FIFA's I played against newcastle and i liked them from then on. You can't root for your home team when you're on a different continent.
also I don't watch mls, so i wouldnt know with beckham. In all honesty, which this usually pisses off English fans, but I think MLS teams are atleast championship quality. the good ones atleast.
whens the final for CL?

A week wednesday, so the 21st may. crickey what time does 7.45 pm translate at over there?! it's cool there's genuine football fans outside of the UK who try and see as many games as possible. did you see the united-roma quarter final game?
i've never watched a full mls game so i can't comment. the champonship can throw up some great promotion races though.
fair enough on the 20m, it's a lot of money. i obviously think he's worth it. it's all bayern woud have accepted, sometime you've just got to bite the bullet and pay what's demanded if it's a player you really want. carrick wasn't much cheaper. if those two players play consistently - as they have been this season - and stay 5 years or so it will be money welll spent. but who knows how uniteds success will go from here. i'm pretty hopeful.

yeah that's probably fair. the best of them could probably compete/not get relegated. wolves would beat them all though, obviously...
I don't see the same with Nani, largely because United don't really need him, which in all fairness has probably made me slightly against him from the off really. And thank you, Saha is a waste of time.
Nani is a really good player he's just having a tough time adjusting to the pace of the league. The Prem is very tough for flair players. Their first season is usually spent with them picking themselves off the floor.
Go and search some videos of him prior to united.
Also Nani is the same nationality to Ronaldo and I'm sure that a minor part of the reason we bought him was to tighten the grip on ronny by practically buying him a friend. It's not unusual for this kind of thing to happen.
I remember when Saha was deemed as being world class. It's just a shame that he's had injuries. I see him as a good offer in a player-plus-money transfer deal for the future.

GO UNITED!
Dave.
Giggz and Scholes didn't start all games because they are getting older and also had injury problems. Take them back 5 years, and they would start every game possible. With Tevez, I feel he should start all their games, but for whatever reason he just didnt put him on all the time. A lot had to do with only wanting to play Rooney by himself because Ronaldo is like another forward. But if thats the case I honestly think Tevez is equal to Rooney. Rooney is a bit overated in my opinion.
And Im not saying hargreaves is a bum or anything. He's a good player, just not in that elite in his position. Overrated in what he was paid for.
And I said Rio is in the maybe the top 10 of center backs in the world. But 10 to me isnt top in the world, its up there. The top in the world is literally the top 1 or 2 guys. Thats all I ment by that, I can see where you thought I contradicted myself, I knew what I ment when I was typing it.
And your right, in the end its all good because we both love the best game in the world. Congrats on the league.

cheers man, i really like Tevez. so much energy, and very good on the ball. i rate Rooney though, he's a very selfless player. he's been up there in regards to assists for united, and top 10-wise in the league, since he came. that's why the majority of united fans - well, me at least - aren't bothered when he goes on draughts. becasue he gives so much more to united than just goals. something like 4 out of the 6 games united have lost this season have been without rooney. tevez is, in my mind, a slightly different player but close to being on par.
it is the best game in the world.

Sorry dave but how come you support United when you're from Reading?
(Before anyone asks I was born and lived within walking distance of OT till I was 10)

I thought that too the other day.
In any case I moved from Manchester when I was 5. The fact I was from there was least important to me at that age than the fact we had Eric Cantona.

Yeah... answered before mate. I'm far more brought up in Reading. I consider it my hometown. I did watch Reading as a kid too. If I had to choose a second team, obviously it'd be them. But as corny as it sounds, United's in my blood. I couldn't support anyone else. When United have played Reading, there is not a doubt in my mind in regards to who I want to win. I think when you really support a football club, the aspect of choice disappears. Whatever happens with United I'll be a fan for the rest of my life. As I said, I liked Cantona, I thought he was awesome. The fact I was born in Manchester didn't connect with me until later. My brother's a United fan and one of my earliest memories is how disapointed he was when we lost the league to Blackburn. Obviously, I use that as my 'not a glory hunter' argument.

I can't see how locations can determine what team you support or don't. Or a person born in London is forbidden to support United? (just an example)

You are supposedly meant to support your local team, and all the hardcore football fans do regardless of which league they are in or how successful they are. Unfortunately the top teams are so attractive to watch that people will support them instead of their own local teams, causing the unsuccessful teams to struggle even more and the big teams like United to gain reputations for having disloyal fans.

Surely you don't mean that in the sense that you support the team wherever you happen to be living?

I see. Actually is the same here. But we have so many football teams (because of our contry size) that people sometimes support 2 or even 3 teams (but from different states).
My dad is an example. He supports one of our local teams and another from the state of São Paulo.

1 DAY TO GO. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH!
COME ON THE REDS!
I think there will be one goal if any - i am dreading pens cos i think they'll nick it if it goes that far. Pitch doesnt look the best but it should be ok.
2-0 Man Yoo
We start of strong, play forwards get them riled. Then sit back, let them attack and catch them on the break just before the half is up.
Chelsea come out for the second half all fired up after the interval and bombard us constantly. We sit back and cushion hits. In the 70-80th min we break strongly and nick another in. Fergie takes scholes off and brings on Fletcher and we defend and sit back for a while.

1-1 thus far.
its hard watching a game i dont care about. Though the scholes makelele foul was shit that makelele got carded. Also Seedorf is commentating the first half and then going to the spanish commentators for the second. Hes fun to listen to cuz he says it like it is unlike the shit announcers i usually am forced to listen to.

Makelele got booked for going on at the ref. Fair enough I think (for the ref). I mean Makelele got the foul given, what was the point in complaining further? The only reason Scholes went in was because Makelele had whinged on about an incident moments before involving Evra. It was more of a clash, Scholes being slightly late, than anything awful that warranted Makelele to whinge on. Cunt.
