over the weekend, 32 people were shot in the city, and a couple in cordo's building were stabbed. also, a friend of a friend was hit by a car and died near my house.

cord's being awfully calm about the stabbing, the guy was caught and the people are still alive, but in critical condition. that shit's nuts though. some teenager from the suburbs broke in and nobody knows what happened exactly, but he stabbed these people when they were sleeping.

if I were her, I wouldn't be able to live there anymore. but I guess the odds of a murderer striking the same building twice are pretty low. :(

there's no point to this thread, I was sleeping and woke up suddenly worrying about this shit. :/

cordy is my bestest friend, she lives with her boyfriend now, in a different neighborhood.

so far, only trouble I get in my hood is cat-calls or insults yelled from cars when I'm wearing a red coat. which is bad I guess, because this is kings country. but usually in areas where there are gangs, the crazy random stabbing kind of violence against innocent people isn't so common.

there was a kid hanging out on our porch last winter, and my old roommate called the cops, but he didn't do anything. plus, there's like huge old mansions and million dollar single family homes next door and all around, much better for robbing than our silly little apartment.

completely seriously, i'd sleep with a knife tucked in the mattress if i were you, and maybe with something heavy blocking the door. at least to hear something loud if someone tried to bust through. or if i were a girl i'd want to room with dudes, not to be sexist or anything because the guys could be complete pusses for all ya knows.

id go all 'home alone' on my place if i were you. you need a record player, some mannequins and a flashlight to hook it up so that robberdudes think you're having cocktail parties at all hours like kevin in home alone. wait, that shit was in chicago too, it could work(y)

but really, at least some marbles under your window sills could go the trick.

or just move somewhere not so crimey and crap(y)

i'm completely serious and not even kidding, you should buy 8 deadbolts for your door and a gun and a personal bodyguard and also you should call the cops every time you hear a noise because YOU ARE GOING TO DIE IF YOU STAY WHERE YOU ARE

Yeah, actually a friend of mine got into a fight and got stabbed late Tuesday/early Wednesday. He's in the hospital now in critical condition.

Scary times when people can't take their anger out normally.

I read in the paper today that someone got stabbed around here recently for watching America's Next Top Model too loudly.

wow. sorry to hear about all the craziness! I guess I could say similar things since I work in Oakland now but still.

Stay safe, woman!

Dorothy you must live in Chicago no??? I was just talking with a Chicago cop last Saturday night at a party. We were hangin out in the back yard, and were talking about the weather. He says, "My job will step up a bit now" all because of the weather he says there's crime spurts.

Move to a neighborhood bordering a terrible neighborhood, they're about the safest ones there are.

The neighborhood we live in is five blocks from some shit, and everyone keeps a pretty close eye on stuff here without being snoopy.

well, the shootings were mostly on the south side, and far west side.

and I do live in a neighborhood bordering a bad neighborhood. and my neighborhood is weird because it's very nice and all different cultures live here, but it's still very much run by gangs. there is some racism towards white people. my street is friendly though. I used to live farther west and north and there were a few gang murders right near my house, some street fights. a half mile down the road where I live now is quiet.

cordo lives in kind of a weird spot. there are a lot of middle to high income people that live there, but I saw an attempted mugging in broad daylight by her house once. two men were fighting and yelling BOTH saying, "help! I'm being robbed!", so it was very confusing. but the muggee threw his wallet out into the busy street and continued to put up a fight and eventually pulled down the mugger's pants, at which point the mugger gave up and ran away. ha.

her neighborhood borders a neighborhood that has a lot of rehab centers and halfway houses. there are tonnnns of crack heads just hanging out over there at all hours. it's pretty weird, I think some of them creep up and commit petty crimes.

although, like I said, the kid that stabbed those people was from the suburbs...so, there's no telling what could happen I guess.

you should be like "neighborhood watch!!!! fix the neighborhood!" then things will be ok.

actually when I said a neighborhood bordering a terrible one....I should said bordering a terrible one and a nice one, so its in this weird kind of buffer zone.
