I was wondering if the Beastie's ever mentioned any sign of influence from Devo or gave them props at any time?
I guess i was net yesterday looking for new shit to add to my music collection....when i discovered.....just last night....that Devo was just more than "Whip it". It kind of reminds me of some the fans or non-fans just knew the Beastie's for "You gota fight, for your right to Party"
I bought not one....but 3 Devo albums....Oh No! It's Devo, New Traditionalists, and Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Some of there stuff reminds of some tracks off of HN. And the suits they wore in Intergalactic, and their tours that year.
Just askin? :p

The boys were really excited to meet Devo at Sonar in Barcelona last summer. They were pretty disappointed not to be able to attend their show.

My oldest brother was friends with Devo in high school, and would drive their band equipment around from garage to garage in his VW bus.
Nothing to do w/ the Beasties liking them but I love that story :D.

Artistically they're very similar. Both do basically whatever the fuck they want with their music, often diving into certain Genres and experimenting, something that most artists probably wouldn't feel comfortable doing to their fans.
Also, they both make ground breaking music-videos, someone once said in a Rock History class of mine that Devo, like the Beasties, like to present themselves in the goofiest most outlandish ways they can think of, i agree to an extent.
Nice thread (y)

i never thought devo and beasties had much in common until now. good point. the whole fight for your right and whip it thing is very true. i can't stand talking to someone about the beasties and their reaction is "oh yeah! fight for your right to party!" gross

Devo has made it's motion on the Sites of the Web as of Late.
I'll quote this "On my BDay this house just wasn't a home and I played Devo: Live in the Land of the Rising Sun Live 2003. I'd had it for a while but never gave it the ear test
The best song played was 1980 Super Rare Clip of "Gut Feeling"~That Song Reaks of Law banger
I suggest for everyone to Download that song
The interview was cherry sweet as well. They had a problem getting their passports to Japan and said something along the lines of The Homeland Security giving them shit to get their passports. And I quote "Yeah Homeland Security ~ Thank You. I mean because we now we know the price for Freedom: It's Freedom"
I'd like to have that tattooed on my Forehead. Nice Play on Words
I'd like to proclaim DEVO as LAW!
