New Beck album "this summer"

In deference to that leak-crazy Web. 2.0 we all keep hearing about, Beck is
keeping his cards close to the vest about his forthcoming record produced by
Danger Mouse. It's coming out this summer, it has 10 songs, and will be
released on Interscope in the States and XL in the rest of the world....

I'd dig it if he did the "vinyl and digital only (http://www.cnet.com/8301-13526_1-9902587-27.html)" release style.

I like that iTunes single he released, "Timebomb".

i will be thoroughly angry if that happens.

and btw, not even elvis costello went through with those plans- it was released on cd as well. i wouldn't have purchased it otherwise, and he's my favorite artist.

I hope he tours this one. I can understand not touring The Information because he had been playing some of that material on the Guero tour, but I missed him on that tour and I really want to see him live.

On a semi-related note, I seem to be in the minority by thinking Guero is better than The Information.

I second that.

Beck has never been able to top Odelay. Mutations was alright, as was Sea Change but I really don't listen to him anymore, which is a shame because I used to like him a lot.

Why is he churning out albums like a man on a mission? If he just took time out to create something fresh and worth listening to then I might be interested.

I'm pretty excited about this - he's one of my favourite artists and I thought 'The Information' was a strong piece of work.

I'm intrigued to hear what Dangermouse might do with him - Beck's pretty versatile.

I like a lot of Dangermouse' stuff but he's everywhere recently so I hope he's not spreading himself too thin - I haven't heard the latest Black Keys album yet (produced by DM) for example, but bought the single and found it wasn't as immediate or catchy as previous Black Keys and Dangermouse stuff - which was a slightly disappointing surprise - but it might grow on me yet.

July 7th. (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/06/12/beck-reveals-modern-guilt-release-date-tracklist/)

Doesn't say whether it will be a digital release or actually be in stores...if anyone figures this out, let me know.

Comes out Tuesday. You can hear snippets of the whole album here. (http://www.modernguilt.com/#3) It feels mellow and blues-y. I dig it.

I'll be picking it up Tuesday on the way to school, I'm quite excited. I guess we'll see no video for Chemtrails though...

eh, from snippits it doesnt sound as awesome as i hoped. I was hoping more Guero than Information honestly. The Hell Yes EP is my favorite thing he's ever done. But I'm downloading it. Ill tell ya if its good later.

I bought it this morning on the way to school and just parked in the shade and listened to it front to back. It's very 60's sounding, as many have said, and it's a new phase for Beck. Gamma Ray, Chemtrails, and Modern Guilt are fantastic. It will take more listens for it to sink in, but so far I'm not disliking it.

I bought it to listen to at work today, and I like it! It takes some of the new sounds that Guero and Information suggested, but instead of dipping back into the sample mixtures and looking back, this one sounds like more original production - looking forward.

That's my take on it anyways. It doesn't have the hooks that Odelay flavored stuff had, but it has more of the subtle doom and gloom.

It's a smooth, simple album, but simple can be good. My favorites are "Gamma Ray" and "Chemtrails".

On a semi-related note, I seem to be in the minority by thinking Guero is better than The Information.

Hell yes it is...The Information was a great album that I've appreciated more as time passes, but Guero is much less bloated, and has some of his catchiest shit in years.

¥eah, this ranks third to me out of the last three. I liked Guero a LOT. and the information had Cellphone's Dead, which is one of my favorite songs of recent times.

Just got it. Not impressed. But I only listened to it from the store to work which was 10 minutes. Nothing caught me out of all the snippets I've heard so far. But ill really give it a good listening later tonight.

For a Beck and Dangermouse album it is a bit ho hum, might take some time turning this one

the more i have listened to it the better it has gotten. But there still isn't anything spectacular about the album....yet. I can't think of a single song on the album besides the opening track that has a hook/melody/groove (whatever you want to call it) that just gets you right away.

^ what he said!

it's good, but it's not what i like in a beck album. i'm gonna be lame and say the information was better.

I don't know anything about this new Beck album, but I'm surprised by all the Guero love. I dislike it a lot. I really like the Information, though. Probably because it doesn't suck, like Guero does.

Guero took a couple of listens before i "got" it. Haven't heard a single thing off of the Information but I just got it yesterday so here's to hoping.

i agree. there are some songs i enjoy on Guero, but i don't love the whole album like i do The Information.
