looks like some real shit

It looks like it has a chance to be one of the biggest bombs of the summer.

It looks really bad but I'm mildly intrigued by the look -- mainly, whether doing that shit for two hours would actually work in some crazy way.

Reviews are generally very negative.

The only movie of theirs I've liked so far is Bounce, anyway.

i thought it was ashton kutcher as speed. the whole reason the show was good was the animation. this one looks dumb

From Rotten Tomatoes

Consensus: Overloaded with headache-inducing effects, without a coherent script. The Wachowski Brothers have overloaded Speed Racer with headache-inducing special effects, and neglected to develop a coherent storyline.

I hope Ebert reviews it. I love his bad reviews.

But it has my favorite new up and comer, Emile Hirsch. Oh god how I love him.

...why couldn't they just make it an anime?...oh I forgot, MONEY!!!!!! Because kids these days care less about hand drawn characters on the silver screen!

Seriously though, just watching a commercial makes feel like I dropped a few IQs.

Did you see Black Snake Moan because she was in it? That movie sucked. I think once I realized she wasn't going to wear skimpy clothes or show her boobies anymore we left.

Maybe I need to give it another chance?

Oh yeah...speed racer is gonna blow dick.

dammit

It seems he never review any of the terrible ones anymore. I looked all over for a Spiderman 3 review and never found one.

I guess his thumb carries allot of weight and it's better to have others be the bearer of bad news when so much money is on the line.

Emerson say's

"Speed Racer is a manufactured widget, a packaged commodity that capitalizes on an anthropomorphized cartoon of Capitalist Evil in order to sell itself and its ancillary products. Corporate partners in the venture include General Mills, McDonald's, Mattel, Topps, LEGO and Target, who have furnished no promotional consideration for mention in this review."

I've always been a SpeedRacer nut. Actually, I'm more of a Mach5 nut. The collection is growing with this movie, and I like it. That being said, from what I've seen of the actual movie, it looks kinda lame, but worth taking my 4yr old to the IMAX for.

Surprisingly, a lot of my friends seem excited about this movie. I think it looks like total shit. When I went to see Sarah Marshall the other day, before the previews they had this extended trailer of it and my face almost exploded (in a bad way).

I hate Emile Hirsch. I think he seems like a spoiled little butthole in interviews I've seen. I like some of the movies he's done, but generally I find him repulsive.

I'm also repulsed by Christina Ricci. she's not a very good actress, she pretty much ruined Monster.

Afraid this is where you and I part ways- that movie was awesome! And as like a psycho bonus bowl o' goodness Sam Jackson's version of Stagger Lee is among the greatest recorded versions of perhaps the most covered song in history. That performance alone made that movie a winner.

I'm half expecting it to be one of those children's movies (for everyone) kind of deals. The other part of me thinks that there is/was a lot of potential and I suppose I'll see if the movie pulls through after the fact.

It's really hard to watch the interviews concerning this movie. I'd really like to think that Christina and Emile are sick of them and that justifies their reactions to questions.

Really the only thing I'm betting on is that it'll turn into a stoner movie.

woah nellie! that's the first i heard of that, so i googled it.

Hmmmm.... wonder if the sudden public denials have anything to do with a certain colorful family film opening this weekend...

I kind of like Christina Ricci, but more because she's my physical type and less because of any acting merit.

Speed Racer ought to be interesting just because it's one of the first movies (I'm aware of) that is trying to stay consistent with the visual look of the anime it's based off of. Seeing how they translate those crazy speed lines and crap into an effect should be sweet.

Honestly, I thought the original speed racer cartoon was pretty fucking stupid and vapid anyways, so they can't possibly dumb it down any worse.

Wow. This really tanked.

IMDB:

As things turned out, the movie debuted with just $18.6 million -- a figure that
will no doubt cause heads eventually to fall at the studio, which reportedly
spent $250-300 million to produce and market it. Taking over second place was
the debuting romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas from 20th Century Fox,
which wound up with $20.2 million, the same amount that had been forecast for
Speed Racer.

I just watched it over the weekend. Hey now, wait a minute. It wasn't that bad. Especially with what they had to work with. It flowed and went crazy town. Not your average movie which is probably why so many people had a problem with it. The effects were pretty fun. Must have been a pain to storyboard it.
