IF you are, there is someone on ebay who has a bundle of them up for 70 bucks a piece or you can make an offer. I've bought from this seller before so I know they are legit.

This guy is raising money that will benefit Obama's campaign.

I thought that red was legit as well. I know I've compared the clarity of the red to the bootleg black and it is like night and day.

Probably something that shouldn't be hashed out in an open forum. PM and I will tell you why I think what I think.

I've got both red and black vinly versons of the original (neither bootleggs) and there's no discernable difference between the two except the color of the vinyl. In general, the easiest way to spot a bootlegg by is the type of materials they're using on the cover. The bootleggs get made at different pressing plants, which means different paper/cardboard/dyes, etc. If you have a original for comparrison its easy to spot a bootlegg. Otherwise its pretty hard to spot a bootlegg if they do a good job with it.

I may have spoken out of turn on this. My reasons for believing the red is a bootleg is because I have heard that it is from people that I consider to be "in the know". The other reason (that I thought it wouldn't be fair to discuss in an open forum) is because of the source. The seller Spadella on ebay sold me my copy in November of 2000. Since then I have seen him sell several other copies on ebay, and I think (but am not 100% certain) he sold another collector I know 5 or 6 copies. Now he has 30 copies more to sell. I have no proof that they are bootlegs at all, I just think that it is fishy that one seller has been able to get at least 35 copies of a record that rare. I mean how does it happen? Sir SkratchaLot is right, the black and the red are pretty much identical. It would be wrong of me to say that I know definitively that they are bootlegs, but I would feel much better about my copy if I knew how Spadella got their hands on that many pressings of a "limited" promotional run.
I spent $575 on my copy when they were believed to be much more scarce, and I would be much relieved to learn that it is authentic.

Spadella could very well be a Grand Royal employee, somebody who played on the record, a close friend, etc. If I remember right he's from Atwater. When they're pressing like 5000 records and then not selling any, it seems like there's a potential to be a lot of leftovers out there. Plus he's sold them at reasonable prices and he's giving the money to the Obama campaign this time. Seems odd for an amoral bootlegger. Or, on the other hand, maybe his position gave him access to getting ultra-authentic bootleggs and he's pure evil.

The other thing is, Country Mike got seriously inflated in value, as did a bunch of other B-Boy records because off a handfull of hardcore collectors. There are a lot of copies of that record out there. For a while there you had a lot of people paying a lot of loot but that's pretty common with "hot" records. I paid close to a hundred dollars right at the beginning of the hype for one and I remember thinking it was really worth about $50. But then they skyrocketed to anywhere from $250 to $550. Once all the hard core collectors got copies the demand dropped and the price fell to below $100 again. A record gets really "hot" and people flip out but when the hype subsides the prices drop. That's just the way the market works.

lol. I received mine for Christmas some time ago and still have not opened it --I would sell my unopened copy for 800,000 dollars and 1000 hungry orphans.
