So I've been in too many situations where I've had to learn a card game now, and for whatever reason it really stresses me out. I love board games, and once I know how to play a card game I generally like them - but I absolutely PANIC when I'm worried I won't understand the nuances of a card game when I start playing it with people.

The plot thickens: my fiancee's parents love card games.

i'm similar to that. I can get the rules straightaway but the tactics sometimes take time and mistakes but its the only way to learn really, i guarantee you that other people you played with will have made the mistakes you would, besides if they are your missus' folks then they might give you hints. I played bridge for the first time with my wifes parents and they just pointed me in right direction and then explained a few of the hands basically cos i asked them to.

but at least most card games are easy to pick up on after a couple games.

its when you start playing drinking card games that you don't know when you run into problems because you're drunk before you pick up the concept and its a never ending loop

ps: i love cards, and i wish i knew more games

try playing online card games. it helps sometimes, it's how I finally figured out how to play hearts. I also used to play euchre all the time online and I totally rule at it in real life now.

Chill out man. You won't get crucified if you don't remember all the rules. Card games are about fun, not stress.

Unless you're playing the game Stress.

Coup Fourré!

I used to play the shit out of that game. my old college roommates and I had an articulated vampire cut out halloween decoration guy that we left up and put in a jaunty pose. we named him coup fourre.
