I've tried HotJobs and Monster.

Are there any good ones?

I actually used Craigslist, too, but had forgotten about it.

I've been puking for three days about this. (n)

Yeah. I've got about three weeks to find something.

I've got experience, but no college degree, so that's a hurdle at a lot of places. I haven't had to look for a job in about 15 years --
I always got asked.

My blood pressure is through the roof right now and so I wasn't able to keep much food down for the past few days. My heart is beating
so hard it wakes me up or keeps me awake, so I'm pretty bleary eyed right now.

Sorry. Venting.

Crap! That sucks, man.

I never had much luck with those kind of sites, but Craigslist can be an exception. I'd say you're better off going through anyone that you know anywhere, you know, without sounding too desperate.

I found my job via hotjobs but I also saw it had an opening in the local newspaper as well.

I think all Internet job services are pretty much the same. If you search around, you'll see there's job posting from the same company on all the services.

Just keep looking and get the newspaper and check the classifieds. Good luck to you. It took me two months to get my job but, I've turned down 8 to get to mine.

wow .... that sucks, what reason? downsizing? .... 15 years is a long time, they better have a good reason.

I've only been here for three years, actually. There's just no work for me to do, and I can't generate it on my own; I depend on the engineers,
and they're busy hopping with customer support.

it makes me worried that you're not feeling well over this. i completely understand, but i hope you can at least feel better physically.

do you do CAD work?

No. For this job, I coordinate the documentation. Before this I was an administrative assistant who handled facilities, the web site, the graphics, etc. I did that for about nine years.

Thanks. I might go back to the doctor and see if he wants to toy with my meds.

stop reading stuff like that. serious. recently i became so stressed out with all the crises in the media - food crisis, housing crisis, credit crisis, fuel crisis, care crisis - i burst into tears when i went into the supermarket to buy a red pepper and it was 99 pence. standing there bawling holding this red pepper like it was an alien. jesus. i started to get extremely nervous.. jumping all the time. almost having a heart attack when someone entered the room. my flatmates were all "you'd think no-one else lived here!" i know stories like that are hard to avoid, but it's news exactly because it is rare. i have to tell myself not to worry. i am so anxious all. the. time.

in response to your thread - i joined monster a couple of months ago.

i don't know if it's the same on the US site, but there's an option here to make your C.V (resume! dammit) eh, search-able. i got headhunted by two different organisations in the first week i put it up - one job fell through, the other was as a press officer for the financial services sector in dundee that i wasn't too hot on. they were willing to negotiate with benefits, salary, annual leave, pensions etc, too - it was a new role, they had a lot of money, so they were basically like "so what do you want?" i know it sounds foolish me turning it down - but i sure as shit don't want to do the news and PR in the finance industry in.. dundee (sorry gus!) so i said it wasn't really the direction i wanted to go down.

almost every organisation needs a good administrator/office manager. don't worry. if you don't find something, something will find you.

Thanks, folks.

Yeah -- I did post my resume so that it's searchable, so we'll see. (y)

In canada we have a gov't run online job site that everyone across the country uses. its the best thing around. has jobs anywhere from 8/hr to upwards of hundreds of thousands a year. people from overseas check it out all the time too because when I post one of my company's job openings on there I get resumes from cuba and iran and shit.

does the US or even just the state of california have something like that?

also check out the city of san fran's website. see if there are any municipal job posting you could apply for. you never know right.

Thanks.

I think the unemployment development department has a line on some jobs, but I'm not in that system yet so I don't know if I'd have access.

Something'll turn up. Fuck it.

its true. something will turn up. and if it doesnt Im a bbmb bake sale could raise funds for you in a heartbeat.

I lost my job of 16 years about this time last year. I put my info on Monster and got a call from a temp agency who sent me on a temp to hire job. I had to do 90 days as a temp, but I'm happy because it's a better job and a better company than the one I originally lost.
The girlfriend also found her job of 3 years on Monster and she had to do the same temp to hire deal, but she's also very happy with her position.

Just a bit of advice, if you're eligible I suggest you apply for Unemployment Compensation ASAP. It takes a few weeks to go through the process until money starts coming in, so you want to get the process started ASAP.

Network. Use Linkedin, Plaxo, and any other networking site -- Spoke or Facebook, plus there are more, I'm sure. Monster, Hotjobs, Craigslist, and CareerBuilder are all good -- Monster, Hotjobs, and CareerBuilder might all be the same company, though. There is also a site called simplyhired (www.simplyhired.com).

If you have some companies for which you'd like to work, search to the career section on their websites. Also, don't know if you want a tech job, but I think www.DICE.com might have some opportunities for you, too.

At both the job sites and the companies sites, set up search agents. You'll be amazed when you get 3 - 5 job opportunities emailed to you how much better you feel about your prospects.
