i always just assumed it was original or based on a true story or something based on how much rappers and people who want to be rappers love it, i didn't know it was a remake.

the original can't be as good though because it probably doesn't have this song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZvqOwAMHJRU). if the 80's had a soundtrack, i think it should be composed entirely of that song

oh come on, that is like the best "doing things" song. just listening to it makes me want to do things and push it to the limit and get things done

I leanred it was a remake when they were showing the making of on Spike TV before the 20th ann. release.

To think about it though, Niko Balic (GTAIV) also has a scar on his left eyebrow.

Bob, I can't believe you fell for this. DePalma's is a really, really, really bad movie. (n)(n)(n)(n)

That is a complete exaggeration. Sure it's not the masterpiece that a lot of dunces (who completely miss the point) make it out to be but it is by no stretch of the imagination a bad movie. There is a lot of artistic merit in both the production and direction, and while the script and some of the acting is pretty ropey it's a pretty competent rags to riches to death story. You can't dismiss it just because a vocal minority of idiots have decided it's the best thing ever.

Oh, and it's easily better than the original.

No -- it's a bad, bad movie.

When it first came out, I liked it a lot (wrote it up in the paper as an A-). But I've seen it twice, since, and it's badly constructed, ham-fisted
as hell, and incredibly dated looking. Pacino's performance is so gloriously over the top that people think it transfers to the rest of the movie.
He had the right tone that the movie completely lacks. It's bad.

Hell, in retrospect -- it's Oliver Stone and Brian DePalma. Neither has ever trusted their audience or met a plot point they didn't want to
triple-underline.
