saw this show last Thursday and it was truly amazing. first of all, the crowd was in a really cheeky mood. the "in between band" music was all 80s and everyone was drinking and singing and dancing with strangers and just totally pumped for the show. everyone was ready to dance!

the Black Kids were amazing. they were a little bit throwback 80's, a little bit soul and a lot of fun! the crowd was totally into them for an opening band that doesn't really have an album out and only one single. i only knew that one single, "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You", but the whole set was so good that i danced as if i knew every song. i loved how the sister, don't know her name but she's actually the sister of the guitar player, i loved how she danced. she did this little "spirit fingers" thing while she was playing keyboard. i just thought that was adorable and i totally wanna steal her moves.

in between the bands there was more dancing and singing... "DON'T YOU WANT ME BABY! DON'T YOU WANT ME OOOOOHHHHHH!"

Cut Copy came on and the crowd was excited and already dancing. they opened with "out there on the ice" which is the song i linked on here a few months ago. let me tell you this band REALLY knows how to pump up the crowd just to the point where they want to explode into dance. just like i've learned a good DJ should do, so they did with their own music. it was awesome. the crowd was so into it. i've seen a LOT of shows and i've never felt this kind of energy. everyone dancing, almost all the same way. i danced with a guy i didn't even know and didn't even talk to after. we were just so into the music and had to dance with someone (he was a nurd, but i didn't care!). the whole show kept that energy going and pumped it up more and more. i was kinda in awe at some points, at how the crowd just totally responded to how the band was building them up to.

they finished with my two favorite songs, Far Away and Saturdays. I didn't want it to end, but boy did my legs!

this was one of the best shows i've ever seen. i wish i was still there.

Thanks in no small part to the music-consuming public at large jizzing into the open mouth of the 80s, indie bands all want to sound like dance music and dance music wants to sound like indie bands.

actually i just see it more as being inspired. i was talking to my friend dave that went with me, and we were talking about this very thing. how can these kids that are not even in their early 20s yet, be so influenced by a decade that they may have never known. i think it's kinda neat. influenced by their parents music or whatnot.

either way i've always been a big fan of synth and am open to new bands that use it. i'm a big fan of the indie dance scene at the moment and this show just strengthened that fanaticism.

Interesting, I wasn't aware anyone knew Cut Copy outside of Australia.

I'm not a fan. I heard a live recording of their gig on JJJ radio and it definitely was not my cup of tea.

my friend tried to call me a liar b/c i told him they were from Australia and their accents were almost non-existent.
