The US state of Kentucky has a large white working class population similar to the state of West Virginia, which Hilary Clinton won overwhelmingly last week.
In both states there's polling evidence to suggest that at least some voters are not prepared to vote for a black candidate.
Al Jazeera's Mike Kirsch travelled to rural Kentucky where he found that for some old prejudices die hard.
i'm generally skeptical of youtube videos or anything else that would take a few isolated examples and have you make a broad generalization from them but i do kind of wonder how many voters aren't going to vote for obama just because they couldn't vote for a...well they're not racist or anything, but they just don't want anyone like that being president?

I'm sure that some people would, just like some people wouldn't vote for Jesus Christ Himself because he's a Jew.
God, I hope that a nationwide swath wouldn't not vote for someone based on race or gender. Musical preferences, sure, but not race or gender.
yeah, same here. i mean obviously some dumb motherfuckers are voting that way (whether they realize it or not), i'm just hoping it's not a swath
and they also wouldn't vote for a woman, let alone a democratic candidate. hillary won the kentucky primary sure, but those were registered dems.

Don't watch it if you don't want to be enraged (especially the second woman in the yellow shirt.)

"The White people have put Negroes in the back of the bus for years and if we're not careful we're going to be in the back of the bus and they're going to be in the front".
..... dudes been in the back of the bus most of his life and doesn't even realize it

I posted this twice, but it definitely applies here on this thread, Clinton Gave Voters Permission to be Racist (http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20080522/cm_huffpost/103085)

You can disparage those people all you want, but we should all realize that people like that are the ones who elected Bush.
Like it or not, that is the America we live in and those people do vote and do have a major influence at the polls.

That is NOT the America we live in. Those are the people who have been targeted with these ridiculous non-issue campaigns to anger them enough to get away from their Milwaukee's Beast to vote while others who wait around to hear about what either side will actually do about the real issues become jaded with the process and stay home on election day.

And Hillary Clinton is helping influence these folks, how?

yep, she is definitely white, her and bill are both white, super white... all that money, all that effort, the supporters, the bigwig corporate interests, the millions upon millions of dollars riding on this, and she points out the white voters and the pattern emerging with them, the southern strategy...
2008 has been much more interesting than 2004 as far as fair journalism, if your willing to search out the facts, you'll see quite a shift happening as far as what sort of strategy and powerhouse politics Obama has been playing, it's amazing.
History in the making.
no, bill clinton is black

Yes, the Clintons never did anything for black people when Bill was in Office.
Are you serious? You just played yourself Bro.
At least you admit that one of the reasons you're supporting Obama is because he's not white. Which is just as bad as the white-trash from West Virginia who won't vote for him because he is black, in my book.
...and on that note, I'm through debating politics with you, GOOD DAY SIR!

i'm not sure that he actually said that

He referred to the Clintons as "White, Super White" as if being white was a negative thing. Thus infering that Obama was the opposite of that.
Admittedley I'm reading between the lines, but I know what he was saying.
Bill Clinton was affectionatley considered the first Black President for a reason.
Yeahwho is just letting his emotions get the better of him lately. He clearly has a lot of anger towards Hillary that he's been directing at me because I'm one of the outspoken Hillary supporters on here. I'm not interested in that kind of interaction on the internet.

Rob, the superwhite was sarcasm, I was being hyper over Hillary's use of the southern strategy (http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2005-07-14-GOP-racial-politics_x.htm). I really put Barack Obama as a very distant second as far as my choice for presidential candidates, here is my original endorsement... as you can see, I really wanted Kucinich, I'm much more hippy for either of these two candidates.
In the multitude of choices for the future President of the United States, I've decided Barack Obama is the clearest choice for myself as our next President.
I have always been a huge supporter and vocal proponent of Kucinich, but it's the reality of the matter that his true democratic ways are never going to fly with the current populist of the USofA. So as much as it is true I'm compromising my own political beliefs, it is also important to think about what sort of future is obtainable to the Country as a whole. (In the multitude of choices for the future President of the United States, I've decided Barack Obama is the clearest choice for myself as our next President.)
So whatever sort of a problem you may have with me, don't correlate into a racial matter, I'm only bringing up what is current and in the media. I'm not a hater, so you can go ahead and label if you must, some people just have to have everybody in their proper peg to get through the day.
Good Luck with that.
