This is an interesting angle in the 2008 race and something that can compliment the 3rd party thread.

Barr was someone who was instrumental in the Clinton impeachment hearings who later revolted against his party and Bush over the Patriot Act and the Iraq war.

Just as there has been speculation of Nader "stealing" Democratic votes in 2000 and 2004, one could wonder if there'd be a similar case for McCain this November.

I was thinking about this the other day too. Does he have enough support from disenfranchised Republicans? Or would they just vote McCain? McCain has a severe lack of charisma and I don't see ANYONE excited over him, I could definitely see some "Meh, whatever," votes going to Barr instead. Just like in 2000, Gore at that point was about as exciting as watching paint dry (and later showed personality and passion when it was a few years too late). If people can't get excited and rally behind their candidate, they look for alternatives.

Similarly, I think it's why Nader won't take many votes from Obama. The enthusiasm he creates is remarkable and unparalleled. Say what you want about his policies or lack of experience, he does espouse a sense of excitement among many, many people, which I believe will push him to win in November.

nader and cynthia mckinney don't need obama voters, as the majority of people who vote green would never vote for obama in the first place.

barr is going to be hammering away at mccain and the republicans non-stop, as should everyone, considering how much they screwed the country and walked all over the constitution.
