That would be me, good sir! No I have not seen the live action movie as of today but I do in fact own all of the manga and I have seen the anime. My interest in the movie is at a minimum as these things tend to turn out poorly but I have heard nothing but praise so far.

Is the anime any good? Ive never checked it out!

Check out Great Teacher Onizuka, Flame of Recca, and Berserk.

The anime is good up until a certain point. Halfway through the series the plot felt rushed and the production crew cut out a lot of the monologues. So I'd suggest watching it before reading parts 7-12 of the manga. But I find that watching movies based on books, then reverting back to the original work, is pretty damn rewarding as you get "extras" as compared to the dumbed down film.
