OK peeps, I am making up a new playlist for a gift for one of my daughter's friend's birthday - this little boy is mad for monkeys, so he's having a jungle-themed birthday party and I told his mum I would make them up a CD with songs about monkeys (or other jungle animals) for the party and for him to keep after. So if you have any suggestions (suitable for a 3 year old, mind - so Brass Monkey is, like, maybe not...) let's hear 'em!
So far I've got:
the Monkees theme song
Monkey Man - Rolling Stones
Apeman - Kinks
Wimohweh - the Weavers
Too Much Monkey Business - Chuck Berry
Jungle Boogie - Kool & the Gang

Oh duh, I can't believe I didn't think of that; we watch the Jungle Book like 5 times a week in this house. Crikey. thanks.

Dunno. I thought of those, but GnR might be a bit hectic, and Ian Brown too eclectic, if you know what I mean? I'm not ruling them out though, we'll see.

you should use the real monkey man by toots and the maytals, i think its
probably the most kid-pleasing.
everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey?
Anything with Ian Brown in it.
Monkey Wrench by the Foo's.

Da Lench Mob - Guerillas in tha Mist
Da Lench Mob - Planet of Da Apes
Planet of Da Apes features the following cuts:
King of the Jungle
and
Goin' Bananas
but also numerous references to killing police, white devils and other anti-establishment type stuff.

taquitos is right about the toots and maytals version of monkey man (y)
the banana splits theme song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2se2I70CJ0)! or the dickies version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs1NoBwsurI)
also
you drive me ape you big gorilla (http://matespawndie.muxtape.com/) by the dickies
maybe the dickies are little too punk for a kid... but personally i'd play it for my kid (but i don't have a child... hope i never do either)
there are some good ideas here (http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/4046)

Got it already (that's the same song as Wimohweh)
I'm thinking I might do both the Toots version as well as the Rolling Stones of Monkey Man, now that it's come up. Might be interesting to see how long it takes for the kid to realise it's the same song.

LOL yes this is true - but it's not just for the party; the boy's got a little cd player in his room that his mum puts stuff on for him to listen to whilst he's in there playing and stuff, so I'd like to make it a good fun mix that he can enjoy for years to come. Or at least for a few weeks, until it gets peanut butter finger prints all over it and junk...
lots of great suggestions everyone, thanks:)

New York Dolls - Stranded in the Jungle
good song, yeah (y)
but i think kids would be more down with the 1956 version by the cadets,
it's pretty much designed for little kids.
