WASHINGTON - A top adviser to Sen. John McCain says McCain believes that President Bush's warrantless wiretapping program was
lawful, a position that appears to bring him into closer alignment with the sweeping theories of executive authority pushed by the Bush
administration legal team.

In a letter posted online by the National Review this week, the adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, said McCain believed the Constitution gave
Bush the power to authorize the National Security Agency to monitor Americans' international phone calls and e-mail messages without
warrants, despite a 1978 federal statute that required court oversight of surveillance.

Is there anyone on this board who supports or defends McCain?

If Clinton had won the nomination, there's a pretty decent chance I would've gone McCain. But that says more about how evil I think she is
than how meritorious I think he is.

i thought conservatives were vehemently opposed to the government intruding into citizens' private lives.

neo-conservatism and radical evangelical christianity has completely taken over the republican party. barry goldwater and dwight eisenhower must be throwing up in their graves.

mccain also seems to be throwing this election away, by flip-flopping and taking stupid, radical positions that the majority of americans oppose. oh well, i can't say that's disappointing.
