Kicked off over the weekend. First round of big games is today. France ties Romania. Didn't really suprise me. Romania is underrated and France is overrated so that evened out.

Match of the Day, Italy v. holland. COME ON AZZURI!!! (pissed my boy super pippo didn't get the call up though, thats real weak. he finished the season is absolutely superb form. Plus he is a perfect super sub for luca)

good thing there are 2 more left. that goal was offsides. and a bit unlucky missing a couple chances. especially the pirlo free and having it go the other way.

FIFA are claiming that goal was technically onside if you strictly follow the letter of the law. The Italian player was off the pitch, but that doesn't count. Now, that's horse-shit realistically since he was taken out of it, but technically it was the right decision they claim!

Either way, Holland were very impressive!

France were so dissapointing.

I want to ask everyone on Earth including you BBMBers and FIFA (who most certainly watch this site with a keen eye) how in the HELL is Romania ranked 13th in the world? They basically threw everything they had at preventing France from scoring and that was it.

This is not meant to be an assault on Romanians etc. but I have to wonder since they`ve missed so many previous major tournaments how did they get to be ranked so bloody high?

I called Italy for WC06 and I called the Dutch for Euro's. I think the lack of Nesta and Cannavaro for Italy will throw them off a little but then the non-starting of Del Piero (favorite player of all time, the reason I like football) and De Rossi will sink them even more. Why Toni? He created like 2 chances in the entire game. Del arrives as a sub and shows how to play creatively within 2 minutes. Eh. Watever.

I was mad at Holland not subbing in Huntelaar, he impresses me.

The shitty US announcer keep saying Germany and Portugal are favorites for the tournament. I was kinda confused as to why, but maybe, who knows.

and as for the fifa ranking system.

1 Argentina
2 Brazil
3 Italy
4 Spain
5 Germany

Argentina didnt do too well in WC, then they lost to Brazil in Copa. idk. im so damn tired.

Toni doesn't create the chances. He finishes the chances. Can't finish any chances if you dont get any (he did get that one, but it was quite difficult).

I think he will start de rossi and perotta implace of gattuso and ambrosini next game. I wouldn't be suprised if del perio and or cassano started as well. Gross NEEDS to be on. Slide panucci in the middle in place of the Matrix.

and toni barely finishes chances, i guess thats what i meant to convey earlier. I think his glory days were of 06, he had a short climax of power. Cassano SOMETIMES can get the job done. He's done well wiht Sampdoria, but I really think Del should start. He is always the sub. He came on and had 3 decent attempts within the first few minutes on the field. He did that against Germany in 06 and scored them.

You've gotta be kidding me. He was the first person to score over 30 goals in the serie A (a league known for its low goal scoring and tough defense, 3 years ago) in over 40 years. He hit around 20/30 the couple before that. Hit 16 two years ago when Mutu was starting to come into his own, than scored 39 at Bayern last year. If Toni barely finishes, I'd like you to point out someone who defiantly finishes.

Nygel
06-12-2008, 10:03 PM
i meant since WC . He scored 24 for Bayern this year but... who cares, Bundesliga isn't the hardest in the world, especially when your on its only really good team (SUPER STACKED!)

also
"2007-08 Luca Toni Bayern München 24"
When he gets a ball he likes, he can put it away, but really, all I'm saying is Del plays better. He was top goal scorer this year for Juve (though only 21 goals, followed right behind Trezeguet, who SHOULD be playing for France right now)

Anyway, He's a great player, sorry to make it sound like hes not, but I think he should be playing beside Del, the two worked wonders for the short time they spent together on the pitch at WC, and Del has had his best form in many years.

Holland is a region in the western part of the Netherlands.

The proper name of the area in both Dutch and English is "Holland". "Holland" is a part of the Netherlands. "Holland" is informally
and quite incorrectly used in English and other languages, including sometimes the Dutch language itself, to mean the whole of
the modern country of the Netherlands.

hah i honestly thought of your previous post mid game when he had missed like his 4th chance. i honestly have never seen him have such a poor day finishing, and i watched every italy game i can plus almost all of his bayern games this year in league and cup. but even if he doesnt score his size poses such a problem for defences he has to be in there. he is a threat on any set peice and holds up the play very well. a bit unlucky again, a couple nice stops by coupet, hit the bar as well. plus a great control to earn the penalty and get abidal sent off, which just turned the game on its head.

cassano was italys best player. the most creative italian on the pitch. great vision, great touch, some tricky passes as well. i think he needs to be on. the italians have lacked a play maker since totti left, i think cassano is there to fill the void. and honestly i have never been a fan of his until this year, watching him at samp and the past to games in euros has changed my opinion of him.

but anyway, on the dutch. huntelaar is no doubt a good player, and would play in almost anyones team. but who is he going to replace? rudd? snieder? i mean van persie and robben and babel can barley get on the pitch with out coming on as subs (or starting in a meaningless game) , that tells you something right there.

spain v. italy is a great qrt final match up, as is germany v. portugal. im really looking forward to those.

Nygel

huntelaar should be the sub with the two Van Persie and Ruud up top. Robben and Van Der Vart sorta attacking mids but layered on the outside, with Sneijder in the middle.

i guess i have one more mid i can put in there... hmm de Jong I suppose.

But I'm a very attacking player and would want my team to have many players in attack as well (de Jong would play more defensive than sneijder obviously)

The comparison to Totti in the sense that Italy has a lot of great players, but they lack a creative playmaker. Im not saying Cassano is better or anything, just that he would plays a role Totti once did. Pirlo is a creative player, but he is more of a deep laying play maker.

Ambrosini can play instead of Gattuso. And quite frankly, as much as I love Pirlo because of him being a Milanista, he has been very dissapointing to me the whole year. Hes been holding the ball to long, and looking for the home run ball almost every time he gets it. I wouldn't mind seeing Aqualina start, with Ambrosini and De rossi in the mid (and Perotta if he deciedes to play 4).

yeah, but the reason they do it is to try and get something out of the ref. Cheats they may be, but not pansys. Thats what people need to understand.

C.Ronaldo is so over hyped its not even funny. He is very good no doubt. Not even close to the same player once he leaves the EPL (BPL).

I think you'll find that Toni is in fact the one that is overrated. yeah he scores for fun in the Bundesliga, but it's the Bundesliga; he hardly comes up against anyone remotely his size let alone any world-class defenders.
now at Euro2008 his lack of a decent first touch and reliable finishing is being exposed. he could've had 5 goals against the French if he'd just shot straight.

Ronaldo on the other hand scored 31 goals in the best league in the world. that by itself is amazing, but he did it FROM THE WING. the closest midfielder to that total was Gerrard with...12. and he was the top scorer in the Champions League. he's been kicked about in this tournament. see Freidrich's stamp tonight.
sure he may be a bit of a crybaby sometimes, but he's the best player in the world. only Messi comes close at the moment.

totally disagree. toni had 31 goals just in league play in the serie A 3 years ago. the first person to score 30 in the league in over 40 years. that really tells you something. and lets be honest with ronaldo being "a winger". he for the most part is the teams second forward. he takes all the free kicks and penalty kicks. truth is he wouldnt score over 30 in serie A no doubt about it. i doubt he could even do it when he goes to real madrid this year or next.

how many does ronaldo have this euros? 1?

and to say tony has no touch is stupid. did you see the touch he had that lead to the penalty against the french? earned the penalty and got them the red card in one play, the turning point of the game.

im not defending his finishing this tourny. although in reality he has as many goals as ronaldo, poor officiating however took that 1 away. this tournement he hasnt been good with the finish, but that happens to the best strikers in the world at times. and if the Bundesliga is such cake why is he the one who moves to the league and leads it in goals? there are a lot other good offensive players in the league, yet he scored more goals in his debut season at bayern than any other bayern débutante ever to boot.

Nygel
06-19-2008, 10:14 PM
Bayern is the top team there, no question. Stacked . . . as much as a German team can be. And I more than assume toni is there for money. Because I doubt its a big deal for him to go to Germany, I think we all know its like... 5th in the top european leagues, and thats the truth. England right now is easily top choice. Woudl be crazy not to consider them top. Cronaldo scoring a shit ton, doesnt even effect me though, I hate the crybaby bitch, but he can finish. Good thing he has a hell of a talented squad helping him do that shit. Put his ass at Blackburn and see what he can do.

Toni was impressive in the good ol' Fiorentina days, but he IS dwindling. My fear? Noone to replace him come national team. Amuari (who is brazillian, 28, but is dual-citizen of Italy, thus making him an available call up, and Donadoni IS interested in him if he continues as coach) would be a good replacement for a while, but who are the young guns for Italy in the future? Lupoli? Since coming to Italy hasn't done anything. Rossi? I don't see him doing fantastic in Spain. Quagliarella isnt impressive. Aqualini, De Rossi, Amelia and Chiellini are the only younger players Italy really have.

Damn I rant about things that have nothing to do with eachother.

sum it up, Toni is god, but fading, Italy is god, but fading with partial promise, and Ronaldo is good, but a bitch, therefore, not cool.

fuck, now i dont even care who wins. I'll pull for Spain. Germany I've always hated and Russia . . . idk, I like Russia as a country, but for some reason have no respect for their football.

At least this means that the whole city will not be blocked by some stupid turkish car-convoy all night - only by a bunch of drunk screaming germans on foot. You should hear the noise here - unbelievable. I think every single inhabitant of berlin is screaming and/or starting fire crackers...

I was in Hamburg last weekend and saw about a million turkish flags hanging from windows

ive never cared for it much either but between Arshavin and how they have been playing latley you should. one of the goals they scored against holland the ball traveled 60 yards, with 4 guys touching it in like 5 seconds and they scored. no player taking more than 2 touchs. they showed the dutch how to play total soccer.

I'm in Kreuzuberg and I can say that the Turks are partying like they won the thing. working those car horns hard. there's also riot police everywhere.

it was a strange game. tv interruptions, streakers, eccentric keepers. somewhere in there they managed to score 5 goals between them. not sure if it was a classic, but interesting nonetheless.

Did you hear that the only problems in Berlin have been some Kurds fighting against some Turks? Strange too... Anyway, I live in the Simon-Dach-Str. and everyone partied like mad until dawn - Germans and Turks together - also in cars and on foot :)

I still don't care who wins...

arshavin is overrated, he truly is. Everyone has been talking like hes some new superstar than noone saw coming, but Newcastle has been following him well before Euros (he wont go there mind you) but he's going to dwindle away, or be one of those who are great for national but suck at club IF he moves to a new club. They have bursts of impressiveness, but fuck them, i still dont want them to win. I like Fabregas, Silva, and Villa. So Spain is still my hopeful. As long as it isnt Germany.

nah dude. im not just basing this on his couple games in euros (which have been great), every uefa cup game i saw for Zenit this year the guy was killing it. put the boom stick to a loaded bayern munich squad and than brought home the cup. i read something about possibly him pipping ronaldo for european player of the year if he does well in the euros. although it probably wont happen, it would be cool to see.

Arshavin was rubbish tonight. Farbregas was awesome. I wonder if Aragones will start him and play 5 in the middle instead of just putting on Guiza in Villa's place if the Valencia player can't play. I hope he does play Cesc since he's played well every time he's come on, especially tonight where he was lethal.

Torres could've had about 4 goals tonight. but it looks like he might have a case of Tonitiss.

the final should be good. I think Spain will win it. too many weapons. Ramos could have a field day against the German left. both Lahm and Podolski are much better going forward than defending, and Ramos has the speed to match them both and loves to get forward. however, if the German midfield kicks the Spanish about a bit then it might be a different game. Ballack should knock some heads and really dominate things. Spanish back four should have no problem with Klose who has played terrible this tournament. absolutely no movement or work-rate, and only dangerous in the air and from set-pieces.

come on, you cant believe that. You have to be in a real league to win that kind of shit. He IS a good player, but all I've read is where he and Turan are going (Turan is going to Newcastle, I'll be pissed if he doesnt, they've been on him for years, But Juve wants him too, who knows) My point is they act like he's some future great, but he isnt young and wouldnt be a key player to any squad better than Portsmouth.
