the West Coast premiere of “Gunnin’ for That #1 Spot,” a documentary directed and produced by Adam Yauch — one of the founding members of the Beastie Boys — is screening Monday (6/16) at the Regency Lido Theater in Newport Beach.

“Gunnin’ for that #1 Spot” follows eight of the nation’s top high school players as they prepare to showcase their skills before each other and the basketball-crazy world. Directed by Yauch, who’s also had a hand in a number of Beastie Boys videos, it’s naturally got a hip-hop soundtrack. Yauch will attend the Lido screening and stick around for a Q & A.

The documentary is being presented at 7:30 p.m. by the Newport Beach Film Festival and its Orange County Film Society. Tickets are free for this screening — limit two.

i just saw the movie and it was awesome. yauch did a great job directing and producing the film. the man is talented!
