Particularly dangerous, as I never got to experience one in real life. I was dismayed that some of the faithful didn't love this format as much as a 'Body Movin' 'Triple Trouble' 'Intergalactic' show.

I have the Heineken Opener (or whatever it's called) boot. It's good. I like them as a band at this point, and the shit they did to those rap songs was crazy inventive. So it's been 13 months or some shit. But I'm just preciatin.

My tits exploded when I first heard this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJIT_EalSfw)

It's a well-established fact that most of "the faithful" are fucking lost when it comes to being Beastie-down.
They're more concerned with things like "Banter" and "Documenting" than seeing a once in a lifetime show.

It bugged me out when they started doing the rap songs playing-wise; when I was 11 I thought that was exactly how they actually recorded So Watcha Want. I figured they just went live instead of samples and loopoops.

Bringing back The Maestro was a master-stroke, too. The TMU songs they included were all of the solid ones, although Cuz of Def could have had a blat.

I'm happy they dug this one out and played it for the Galas although I don't think my tits were close to exploding...but let me check (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpHM958zYGo)

Nice, lave.

I get the feeling they were genuinely rehearsing FFYR, too. It would have been hilarious if they busted out that one.

That was the best Beasties show I've ever been to. It was nice because that early in the tour I wasn't exactly sure what a "Gala" show was all about. Very fun indeed.

...and Honkey Rink was always my favorite instrumental.

It's funny this should come up. I hadn't listened to Beasties in at least six months but then I listened to some random songs one day this past week and it made me think of all the good times I've had because of the band. I believe that my last concert was a good way for me to end because it was a meathead set list, medium sized venue, it was a beautiful night, I was next to Lake Michigan, with a group of nice people, and with my best friend bouncing up and down next to me on the rail. I didn't really enjoy the gala show the night before.

I would rather have been down front in whatever god awful arena they were in when they broke out Rhymin & Stealin than at any gala show. I guess I'm not Beastie down, but I never once had a desire to hear Mark on the Bus live (although I have now).

Your footage is awesomes. Who is the meathead-sounding fellow who yells out "Haaaardcooororee roooocks!!!!"?. On the audio of the show he's like, talking to the band, going "Don't think weee ain't rooockin ouuuutt !!!!" as Time for Livin is starting. Dude is japes.

Haaaaaarrrrrrdcorrrre Rrrrrroooooocksss!!!! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwzRLiIzPUY)

Doc, I'm not implying anybody is more or less down than others. That was young Robert, the scallywag. I'm just basking in the irony of my liking something. :D

I wonder if the Beasties themselves are let down that more of the so called "faithful" didn't get the Gala concept?

It speaks to the level that their fans "get" them as a band I think because I'm willing to bet that the this past tour was probably the most gratifying for them as a band.

I mean how many times can you sing 3MC's or Intergalaic before you start to lose your passion for it? If you don't "get" Mark on the Bus LIVE, you probably don't get them as a band as much as true hardcore fans do.
That's not being elitist, it's just a fact.

I'd say that judging the level at which people "get" it might not be "getting" it, but then I'd be guilty of judging the level you "get" it at.

A lot of us 'got it'. I 'got it'. It just depends on who you define as the faithful really, and whether the faithful who didn't get it should be replaced by the faithful who did get it, who are in fact the real faithful, faithful?

I never saw a Gala show mind. They got great reviews though (e.g. NME) and I'd like to think any fans who went had an unreal time. Sure Shot and Jimmy James...the word that sprang to mind was 'cool.' I don't see how fans could have too many problems with it - probably just over 50% of the regular shows used instruments anyway on the last tour.

If they did, well, it's a shame. For them, not the boys. It was something new, refreshing and dare I say it, something for the real fans. And, ultimately, having a lot of fun themselves, which I imagine was the primary reason - from the clips I've seen, they looked like they were really into it.

So all in all, the Gala shows were excellent all round and they should do more. And, I really want to see that Gala DVD if it comes out (hint hint Mantis)
